The Hotel Washington needed a face lift. The W Washington is definitely five steps-up from what the Hotel Washington used to look like. However, it's a major scene. If that's your thing, then great. I originally stayed here in Aug 2009. Chose the W strictly because of the location and the alluring roof top terrace. The first visit was a disaster but I will not write about that one since I did complain to management and was offered a complimentary weekend in order to give them another chance. We settled on the W for an annversary trip. It is located in the greatest part of town, the monument is out the front door, less than a mile from Smithsonian, great restaurants. Many rooms do not have outside views; If keeping the curtains closed on your room isn't an issue then great but if not you should call rather than book online and ensure you get a view.
