They have advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are: (1) They are close to a subway station; (2) Staff are friendly; (3) Their rate is reasonable; and (4) Rooms are clean. The disadvantages are; (1) They have two buildings and one of them doesn't have a kitchen;(2) You must take off shoes in the buildings; (3) They have some house rules... More

I stayed at DC Lofty in Oct 2012 with a friend for 5 nights. The living area with couches, a huge TV and computers (free for every guest) and the kitchen with a big stove, fridges and enough storage space were excellent. There was also a dishwasher, so you didn't have to do your own dishes after eating. The staff... More

I've been there in July/2012. The place is TERRIBLE, but it was just what I needed: A place to sleep and take showers. - The staff is not friendly, its only one person at time who hates to be bothered by guests. - The building looks like it is about to fall apart, it is not confy or pretty. Lacking of any ambiance or general extra effort whatsoever, I wanted to leave a marginal review... But I will consider the fact that I paid about 30 bucks for a decent bed in dc, and give it a notch above marginal (for the money). The common area was awkwardly set and not inviting. The bedroom was warmer than outdoors in... More

If you are a very conservative or uptight person this would not be the place for you. But if you are a college intern who is lively and looking for a community type of place that is the vibe. Nice meeting areas with big tv's, big kitchen, free computers and strong wifi. Shoes are not worn past the hallway which... More

Not at all what I expected from a hostel. Staff were helpful and welcoming but the hostel itself is not the best appointed one I've stayed in. Beds are comfortable and the bathrooms relatively clean. Location was quite good, easy to get to the Downtown area adm National Mall. Still, it was better than my other DC hostel experiences but... More

This place is terrible. The manager sucks - promised to reimburse me but failed to do so after calling 6 times. Room conditions are bad (they're squeezing tons of bunk beds into small rooms) and neighborhood isn't safe. Don't stay here.

I have travelled around US with my girlfriend for 3 weeks and we stayed in a couple of hostels in different cities (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago) and this was definately the worst of it. Here is what we did not like about it: 1. It was extremely hot and the air conditioning did not do the job. 2.... More

This hostel is in an old townhouse very close to the convention center. Very friendly, considerate rules, girls' dorm has 2 bunkbeds and a loud A/C unit. I slept really well. One problem was the shared bathroom -- I thought it was just for the 4 girls, but guys down the hall seemed to be in there every time I... More

I found the place great. The amenities like tv, internet, kitchen and bathroom were really nice. I didn't have a problem with bed bugs when we stayed in may 2010 (however the airconditioner down stairs was leaking water into the carpet). This wasn't too much of a problem. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Compared to some places in DC,... More
