Arrived by water taxi from Picton, were Trevor was waiting to transport us the 5 minutes to the lodge. My first impression was, what a fantastic view. Our beautifully appointed apartment overlooked the water. Lot's of room for 2 females with the usual heap of luggage, very clean and fully self contained if you what to cater for yourself. Easily describable as The Jewel of the Sounds, Te Mahia is nestled in a bay of golden sand and emerald bush which catches the last rays of the setting sun. By day, the multicoloured waters gently lap at the beach below your balcony and by night the silvery light of the moon and stars are reflected on the darkened sea... more

What a wonderful experience! Awesome natural Marlborough Sounds beauty, native bird song, plenty to do and/or peace and quiet supported by truly genuine, humorous, intelligent, caring and personalised hospitality. I can't say enough about a holiday experience I have just had, which was second to none. I don't know how someone could find fault with any aspect of Te Mahia... more

People are right. The waterfront apartments are excellent - modern, spacious and well equipped. However, the attitude of the owners needs dramatic improvement. We walked in along the Queen Charlotte track in October. We had booked Te Mahia Bay Resort on the basis that it did not have a restaurant, but did have a cafe and a well equipped shop... more

When I was looking for a place to get married in the Marlborough sounds, I came across this place - and nothing else compared! The scenery is beautiful, native bush surrounds the complex, and the sound of native birds adds to it. There are 3 different types of accommodation there, and they're all beautifully decorated.
