First impression of the hostel upon walking in was that my soul was being sucked dry. On the whole the hostel was generally clean and the basics were there. Unfortunately it was littered with un-friendly signs of cameras watching you, almost like staying with 'Big Brother'. The staff we mostly friendly bar 1 who we found completely in-flexible and without... More

Hostel was nice and clean (porbably a result of the lack of guests and creepy notes of "we are watching you" concerning cleaning after oneself) Staff was friendly enough and 100mb wifi was appreciated. Good coupons for picton stuff Not worth 26$ though We were told in the morning when we were to take the bus at 12.45 that we... More

Hi Laura, Thanks for taking the time to place a review. First of all let me just say that we have signs up in the kitchen to ask people to wash and clean up after themselves because some people do not! We have them in all different languages which most people find to be a bit of fun, and like... More

Mouldy showers (private rooms dont have private bathroom), over priced for what you get back, needs an update from the 70s decor. And to get to my 200 words, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah... More

Hi, Thanks for you review. Sorry you did not seem to enjoy your stay, as all our guests reviews before you seem to have had a great time. Yes we except that the place is getting a bit tired but had you looked around you would have seen that work is beginning on the bathrooms, by the way it is... More

I've stayed in The Fat Cod Backpakers for 2 weeks. My stay was really nice, the hostel isn't big so the atmosphere is great, you get to know everybody if you want. You feel like in the family when watching fils amb playing pool, cards,... The hostel offers everything a backpacker needs, it also is so close to town center... More

So many great things to say about this place. Due to our jobs we arrived a bit later than we'd anticipated, but on a cold evening were welcomed by a warm fire and excellent staff. The place is extremely conveniently located in Picton, within walking distance of the waterfront and downtown shops, and sheets and towels were provided. I can't... More

I really enjoyed my stay at Fat Cod Backpackers. It's great value for money and close to shops and restaurants. The lounge room and kitchen are big. The toilet/shower is unisex and clean enough. And the internet was fast. I stayed in a comfy double room (room 9). It's located right at the front next to the entrance and check... More

After a long drive from the South we were welcomed with a friendly Kiwi smile from Scot. The backpackers looks small and cute from the outside but spacious and convenient on the inside. We stayed in one of the 5 person rooms with plenty space for luggage and comfortable beds. The perfect chill out before heading North or arriving from... More

We stayed there for a couple of nights and had a really good time. Staff were super friendly, helpful and went out of their way. The rooms are well kept and the hostel is clean. Free 30 min wifi a day was a good bonus.

Personally, I liked this place a great deal. The bunk beds are sturdy and wooden and the large female dorm big, airy and bright. There is a large number of showers and toilets, you never need to queue, but the common areas have the intimate feel of a smaller boutique backpackers. The layout is very functional, with separate dining area... More

Stayed here before and after hiking the Queen Charlotte Track. Great that they have car parking and could leave my car here (for free) while out in the wilderness. The 8 bed female dorm had loads of space. 8 minute hot showers a good idea - saves the environment and saves waiting in line for half an hour for the... More
