Loved the 1950's patterned carpet - and the carpet on the wall of the main room - yes really... Comfortable bed, had all of the things we needed for a night before getting ferry the next day. Would probably stay again so not as bad as some of the other reviewers thought ;-)

Having spent THE last two months+ in Many motels in Australia And NZ, this was THE worst. Expensive with few redeeming factors. Free WiFi but TV selection limited, despite high price. I guess that when you are near the Ferry to Wellington, you can charge What you want. Poor value for money.

We stayed here for one night after a long day of driving & travelling. Staff were extremely friendly & helpful, understood that it was late & we were tired so just told us what we needed to know. Room was clean and comfortable. Nothing flash or modern but you get what you pay for. The bed was comfortable & it... More

After a sudden change of plan in peak season we discovered that all this was the only motel left in Picton with a room so we were appreciative and paid the price. But in our opinion double that which it was worth - with its carpets and lino's up the walls we thought we had lost a few years. Sure... More

I was impressed with the friendy owners. The unit that I stayed in was very clean and tidy and I found the bed very comfortable. It was quiet and a handy location. It was nice to have a full kitchen. I thought the cost was right for what I received. I was impressed enough to re-book there again the following... More

If you're looking for a brand spanking new hotel with all the mod cons, this place won't be for you. But if you appreciate an old-skool, retro motel - the way Kiwi motels used to be - you'll love the Marlin Motel. The decor and furnishings are a bit old, but not in a tatty kind of way - just... very unimpressed. this was supposed to be a wonderful 2 days with mum and dad . last night we spent a great time at the Waterfront Apartments in Kaikoura which I couldn't fault. it was $229 for a 2 bedroom apartment. I will review it next. However I was gobsmacked we we pulled up to the Marlin in Picton .... More

Picton was very busy so we had little choice of accom. This one was a little bit old and overpriced but the rooms were large and well equipped. Unfortunately as in most places in NZ no insect screens so unable to leave a window open and get fresh air.

Expensive, not the cleanest; I would recommend to stay somewhere else. Booked this room to catch the ferry in the morning. The bathroom and shower look like an afterthought. Rooms are not sealed well, and outside noise finds it's way in.

This motel was very clean with very hospitable hosts. We were made to feel welcome and given fruit from the trees. It isn't a luxury hotel, but for a family motel, it is amongst the best we've ever stayed in.
