As soon as you arrive at Tombstone you feel welcome in this cosy, well appointed hostel. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of space and there is a separate lounge with a TV so you can get away from the sounds and smells of cooking. The dorm room I was in was a little small for 6 people but... More

Stayed in a double room here for three nights and loved everything about it! The room was hotel standard with an extremely comfortable bed and even electric blankets to keep us warm. The communal areas were all really clean and plenty of space to sit and relax. Gary and Nikki were brilliant hosts and made sure everything you needed was... More

I'm happy finally having the time for this review. The Tombstone is really the best "hostel" on the south island.period. It's in my Top 3 overall in NZ. Gary&Nikki seriously just nailed it. I've been to this one 3 or 4 times now (first time was in summer last time now in the deepest winter) and I'm still impressed. The... More

One of the best places I've stayed! The owners make this place just fabulous! You can't fake genuine hospitality! The rooms were clean, beds were super comfy, plenty of blankets! We were a group of 10 and we each felt like a cherished guest in someone's home. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Picton!

Gary and Nikki's being super nice to me. I stayed for only a night. If I didn't have plans to go on I would really love to stay for more days. The whole backpacker feels like home. Clean, organized!! Free bikes, spa and computer(20 mins every time) Excellent Lounges and sun room to relax. You will never regret!!

One of the best hostels in the country for sure. As other reviewers have said facilities are excellent and well presented and the owners are very welcoming and obviously care greatly for the place. Very nice couple. Cozy and comfortable lounge and dining areas including great spacious outdoor area and hot tub, table tennis and snooker. Lots of reading material... More

I visited New Zealand in November 2011. I stayed in hostels for the month that I was there and visited both the North and South islands. Of all the places I stayed, this was the best. Each morning I ate the wonderful homemade cheese scones, (free), There was free pick-up at the ferry terminal, and delivery. The view was wonderful.... More

Stayed here for 2 nights and its the best hostel I've stayed in over the past few months. The owners are very friendly and clearly work hard to maintain the place. Comfy beds, great chill out areas made for a relaxing stay. The only place to stay in Picton!

Only stayed one night (sadly). But it was amazing, a properly made up bed with once with (2) pillows!! Nice little touches with blankets, free soaps and a little radiator. There's also free unlimited wifi, not something I've found elsewhere before, free breakfast including freshly baked cheese scones. Plus a soak in the hot tub adds the final flourish, thanks... More

Stayed here for one night in a twin room before boarding the ferry back to the North Island. This seems like a purpose built backpackers which is more modern than most. Gutted we missed the freshly made scones that day. The rooms were a good size and clean, the bathrooms were similar although had to get up early so I... More
