We really enjoyed our stay at the Tombstone Backpackers in Pocton. The family that runs the Hostel is very nice, especially the mother always asked how we were doing, what our plans were etc. Our room was nice and the bed was comfortable, although the internet didn't work in the room (it was in a seperate building) and there was... This is a really nice hostel, and a great place to stay if you visit Picton. The owners are very friendly and helpful, our ensuite room was nice and clean (a bit odd for us that the toilet bowl and shower cabin were immediately behind the room's entrance door, but we had no problem with it), the communal area of... Coming from Wellington where the hostels, like in Auckland, seem to compete on who offers the most unpleasant experience, Picton is truly a revelation, as it is the other way round here. I’ve read about three or four hostels in Picton before we made a booking and already then it all sounded too good to be true – but no!... More

Lovely hosts, loads of stuff to do and felt like I was at home. Ended up staying in Picton for two nights because it was so nice. Jacuzzi, garden, dog, cat, guitars, piano, BBQ, deck chairs, bikes for rent, eggs for sale, books to read, wifi, movies

Wish we could have stayed here longer. The hosts were wonderful and welcoming. The communal rooms were great. I loved the hot tub overlooking the ferry terminal. If we hadn't had to leave early to catch a ferry we could have gotten to enjoy home made scones for breakfast! If I ever end up in Picton again, I will be... More

Stayed just before Christmas on the way to Wellngton. New owners, very pleasant and helpful. Complimentary breakfast includes home baked scones, produced as you watch. The owners are making improvements to the terraces and garden, which have a mediterranean ambience. Comfortable room, nice touches (we stayed in the single bed apartment). Very friendly atmosphere, reasonably priced, very handy for the... More

We used Picton as our base to see wine country and to take a day trip to Nelson, before taking the ferry to the North Island. We arrived before 9:00am because we were meeting up with a wine tour. We wanted to let them know that we were there, but had no intention of checking in, as it was still... More

We arrived and we were immediately welcomed by one of our hosts. She was lovely, showing us all of the facilities and taking us to our room. We were very impressed by the standard of this hostel as the rooms were of hotel quality. Everything was very clean and tidy and to top it off, Gary made hot scones for... More

I was traveling through on my own and decided to get a shared female room. I was only one of three and because I only stayed one night it was fine. The place itself is a little far from the town itself but they picked me up from the ferry/bus terminal which was great. They also lent me a bicycle... More

Location The backpacker is across the road from the cemetery - thus, the neighbours are very quiet. You can walk to the ferry terminal or the marina where the excursion boats start in about 10 min. As far as we have observed, Garry and Nikki also give a lift to people with their luggage. The next supermarket seems to be... More
