I loved this hostel, very clean and they go the extra mile. Quirky, themed, clean and fun. staff were very friendly and genuine, homely and sociable atmosphere despite free wi fi and best of all free fresh home made scones each morning. What more could you want?

We stayed here when Lynne and Gordon owned and ran it. Apparently new owners have since taken it over. Tombstone was hands down the best hostel that I stayed in during my 17 months in Aus/NZ. Great common areas with free computers, free wifi, television room, bookshelf (if you take one, replace it with a used one of your own)... More

Don't be put off by its location opposite the cemetery!!! Nikki and Gary will give you a warm New Zealand welcome. It's a lovely homely property with owners on site always available to help you out. Good location about 10 min walk from town and ferry terminals. Owners will pick you up or drop you at ferry and run regular... More

We had a double ensuite room. The room was small, but had a shared deck, comfortable bed, and hot showers. They provide towels, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. The kitchen is very clean with ample pots, pans, knives, cups, and plates. Tombstone provides breakfast which includes large, freshly baked scones with butter and jam which were delicious. The internet is free,... More

This was a Queen-bedded apartment, with en-suite shower room and full kitchen. It had a balcony and also included a continental breakfast. The wifi was very good, but only available in the communal areas. It was recently equipped with modern conveniences in the large kitchen area. The bed was firm and very comfortable. The shower room was small, but perfectly... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night before walking the Queen Charlotte Track. The location is ok, about 15 minutes walk to/from the ferry terminal or 10 minutes walk to/from town. We stayed in a private double room with ensuite and felt it was overpriced for what we got. Maybe we are getting too old for backpackers or... More

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tombstone Backpackers in Pocton. The family that runs the Hostel is very nice, especially the mother always asked how we were doing, what our plans were etc. Our room was nice and the bed was comfortable, although the internet didn't work in the room (it was in a seperate building) and there was... This is a really nice hostel, and a great place to stay if you visit Picton. The owners are very friendly and helpful, our ensuite room was nice and clean (a bit odd for us that the toilet bowl and shower cabin were immediately behind the room's entrance door, but we had no problem with it), the communal area of... Coming from Wellington where the hostels, like in Auckland, seem to compete on who offers the most unpleasant experience, Picton is truly a revelation, as it is the other way round here. I’ve read about three or four hostels in Picton before we made a booking and already then it all sounded too good to be true – but no!... More

Lovely hosts, loads of stuff to do and felt like I was at home. Ended up staying in Picton for two nights because it was so nice. Jacuzzi, garden, dog, cat, guitars, piano, BBQ, deck chairs, bikes for rent, eggs for sale, books to read, wifi, movies
