If you need to get away from everything for a few days, Onuku Farm Hostel is the place for you. Located 6-7 km outside of Akaroa, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the nature. If you feel like it, there are some good tramping tracks just outside the hostel - though most of them require a decent fitness... More

On arriving at the hostel we thought we had made a mistake due to the remoteness and far distance form the town centre...but we were wrong! This place was a haven, and in the end we really appreciated the tranquility of its surroundings and its rustic charm. The hostel is located on a farm 6km from the town, and the... More

Stopped here in November in a campervan. The site is pretty basic with no power or dump facilities, but it does have a toilet, shower and cooking block although these are semi-open so quite chilly in windy weather. However, the remoteness and views are the real attraction and provided the weather is half decent, it affords some spectacular scenery and... More

Very free-minded hostel on a farm where they keep 50+ sheep! A real farm-hostel.. The atmosphere is cosy, the rooms are oke, only the showers are outside which we didn't like! In the living room there were several spider (families) :( They have enough facilities, and lovely animals in the gardens! Like a grumpy goose, and a sweet little lamb!... More

An America expat recommended the place. We got there with not much idea. 3 young swet receptionists checked us in. Weird at the beginning, sheep wandering around, a goose. Cabins scattered all over the place, nice people, sharing drinks, music and chats. It is a bit far from the town (~15 mins by car), but it is actually better this... More

Loved the quirkiness of this place. In a rustic rural setting with sheep and geese roaming around. Great place to meet travellers from all over the globe. Wifi works, but only near at the office. Communal kitchens are open air (one is fully enclosed) and showers and toilets are spaced out in various locations over the hillside. Easy spot to... More

Stayed here with our campervan in February -14. Weather was fantastic, and the views from the hills above the place were incredible! I really recommend taking at least one walk up there! The drive up to Onuku was very steep, but we made it... The two cute pigs walking around the property was a bonus. Would definitely go there again.

We came here for a weekend away and stayed in the double room on a Friday and Saturday night. The staff were chatty and welcoming and the other guests were considerate and friendly. If you have a car this place is perfect as it's just out of town but the views and the peace and quiet are wonderful. The facilities... More

Great relaxing atmosphere at Onuku farm hostel. Animals everywhere, beautiful views from the hilltop over the surrounding harbour. We stayed in the stargazer, from which you can see the stars when lying on your back. Was a nice experience! Make sure however when sleeping in the Stargazer that the lights outside are switched off, otherwise it'll be difficult to see... More

Wonderful natural farm stay with amazing views. We stayed on the camping ground in our minivan after a long journey from Australia. When we woke up the next morning there was a sheep lying in front of the door: welcome to New Zealand! Kitchen and showers are in a clean, cosy wooden hut. A great place to relax.
