I searched the internet for a quiet, not too touristy town, for my partner and I to spend our 30th birthdays, without our children. I couldn't have picked better than Tavira. While there are a few restaurants in Tavira, you would have to really hunt to find somewhere that sells a full English fry up. There are a few gift... more

We travelled to the Vila Gale Tavira hotel in November 2008 for a weeks holiday. Unlike some of the earlier reviews we found the hotel to be very comfortable and at this time of the year not too busy. Tavira is a working town and not overly busy with tourists. This suited us very much as we were looking forward... more

A spacious modern hotel but low-rise and designed to be in keeping with its surroundings. In a good location; just a short walk to the town and the ferry to the Ilha da Tavira. A reasonably sized, clean and well-serviced room. The buffet breakfast is exceptional. We have visited this hotel every year for the past six years and have... more

If you want a typical Portguese holiday in a town which has not been over-commercialised then you will love Tavira. The hotel is very central but if you are looking for boisterous night life then Tavira is not the place to be. There are many good Portuguese restaurants, pavement cafes and bars. Access to the beach on Tavira Island is... more

I think this is the only hotel I have ever taken the time to write about, even though nearly everything has already been said about it. In 2008 it was still very new - and fairly empty, quiet and great value in January. It's big and spacious and you do a lot of walking just in the corridors. Best thing... more

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Our pool view room was on the top floor. I recommend you pay the little extra for a pool view as the other views aren't great. Staff are very helpful. Room was large and clean with a lovely balcony which caught the sun all day. Breakfast was excellent, a great variety of... more

Just returned from a golfing holiday in Tavira. We found the Vila Gale Tavira to be excellent value for money. We found the buffet breakfast offered an adequate range and good quality of food. The evening buffet was extensive. Rooms were clean although the beds were very hard. Like previous reviewers I found the walls to be paper thin. Overall... more

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay in Tavira .We found it to be a lovely destination for a relaxing enjoyable stay .The town itself has a warm unspoilt atmosphere with lots of restaurants where you can enjoy local produce. The hotel itself is very well run and efficient with nice rooms. We were bed and breakfast... more

This hotel was in a great location with a lot of things to do just in case you get a lot of rain like we did. Breakfast here was provided with a great variety of food to choose from. They also have a spa facility which was great and very relaxing (although you have to pay extra). The walls are... more

fairly well situated, food good, roomed cleaned well and well provisioned. However walls in rooms are thinner than paper. You can hear next door breathing let alone snoring and arguing. Hotel full of noisy Americans whose attitude was we are up so everyone else should be. Apart from them and the Saga lot feeling they owned the place and several single... more
