Probably conceived to fool visiting dignitaries into believing that communism was a success, the hotel lobby is lovely, the stairs are hugely wide and impressive, the dining room a chandelier festooned hall. But then upstairs, you get curiously shaped rooms and possibly the smallest lifts ever installed anywhere in the world. Our room had a decent sized bedroom, a separate... more

After reading several negative reviews on the Hotel Riga, I did not know what to expect. I arrived on Friday late afternoon and was greeted kindly by the reception desk. I was shown to my room on the top floor and was really surprised. The room had been completely renovated, with new bathroom fittings. The water pressure was excellent and... more

1. Hotel lobby and lifts smelled of vomit the whole time I stayed there (3 nights) 2. When emptying the bath the water started coming up the overflow pipe. 3. All my belongings on the bathroom floor got soaked with smelly rusty sewerage water. 4. The reception staff blamed ME for not reporting the incident as soon as it happened... more

I was worried after reading some reviews on here, but Hotel Riga was all clean and refurbished, no complaints. I had a great 4 days there this Easter. It is the best location in town.My room on 4th floor had fantastic view of parks and Opera. Great hot breakfast too , though the room can get busy. Nice big olde... more

This is an old 4 star hotel with a bit of the old communism look and feel to it. Its not the same quality you might expect from other 4 star hotels as a lot of it could do with new decoration etc, as it has an old feel. But if you are considering just a short break I would... more

We stayed for one night at the Riga Hotel. We arrived prior to check in however the receptionist advised our room wasn't ready but we could leave our bags in the luggage room so we could go out. Reception staff were lovely even although they had dealt with a rather vile couple of females in the queue in front of... more

We recently spent two nights in Riga (25-27 April). The Hotel Riga was well located and easy walking distance to all the major sights around town. The service at the front desk was good, although our room was really quite cold and they were slow to appear with a heater. The bathroom was really dated and a bit daggy but... more

This is probably the worst property I have ever been to. Although the facade is beautiful (historical building, city landmanrk, etc...), the minute you walk in the Hotel, you understand that beneath the fantastic cover, lies the cruel reality. Just a few examples: * On the product: - cracks all over the hotel - old and shabby carpets - broken... more

Just returned from another trip to Riga, this time staying in this Hotel. Had read the reviews here and there is some truth to them. The hotel price is cheap, it's location great - being on the edge of the old city and opposite some beautiful parks, it's safe and the rooms are .... adequate. Those are the good points.... more
