The location couldn't be better -- a block and a half from Town Hall Square in Old Town Tallinn. It's nestled in a lovely courtyard with artisan shops and a cafe. The building, as Jaan pointed out, is older than my country! And the apartment was all it needs to be -- comfortable, clean and darling. It also includes a... More

This was a very good place to stay to experience and enjoy Old Tallinn. Apartment is 2 storeys and compact but had what we needed. It is nestled in an old courtyard which has a cafe but the noise was not excessive. It is close to everything (even a supermarket). Jaan, the owner, was helpful and obliging and offered a... More

I found this to be a wonderful private get away with a cute tiny little apartment that was handy for cooking and close to the store to buy groceries yet also was above a cafe for food/ drinks And also doubled as a good meeting up spot . It was close to all the attractions and easy to access. I... More

Here's the quick hit, 10 being best: cleanliness and comfort=5, location=9, staff friendliness=9, local knowledge=9, overall value=7. This is an apartment in about the best location in Tallinn run by a master jeweler who operates from his showroom in the same 15th century building. Jaan's architectural background enabled him to convert this old building into an apartment with a loft... More

For starters, this property should be listed in apartment rentals instead of the Bed and Breakfast category. We are a 67 year old couple who have traveled extensively in Eastern Europe and stayed at a number of B and B's and this is definitely not one! First, the positives: The property is located in a lovely courtyard in a perfect... More

We booked a room at the Villa Hortensia in early July 2013 for a trip to Estonia at the end of August. The hotel proprietor asked that we confirm our room a few days before we arrived so that he could meet us, given that they do not have a 24 hour reception desk. I emailed about a week before... Where to start? First, the room, in a renovated medieval building, was directly above the best cafe in Tallinn, Chocolats de Pierre, so amazing aromas of chocolate and coffee and muted strains of Edith Piaf wafted up through the floorboards. Second, it's in the nicest courtyard in Tallinn, the renovated Masters' Courtyard, with the aforementioned cafe and artists' shops (real... More

We were recommended to this place by a local friend. It is located in a courtyard quite near the center of old town. Jaan, who takes care of the place also has a jewelry shop in the courtyard as well. He was really nice to offer to pick us up from the ferry terminal but we decided to just take... More

We had three brilliant nights at Villa Hortensia. Owner Jaan Parn answered our call at 7pm on a public holiday after our previously arranged accommodation elsewhere fell though. We needed a place to stay that night and he was very accommodating, even allowing us to park our hire car in his courtyard for the duration of our stay. Villa Hortensia... More

We stayed in Apartment/Room 6. It was so beautiful. The window with exposed stonework was gorgeous, the wood flooring amazing, and touches like shelving built into the wall with a glass door and rope lining the stairs were fantastic. The bathroom was inside what used to be the chimney. Sounds odd but it was quite unique. The door to enter... More
