We stayed at the Varkert Pension from 12th-15th Feb 2006. There were 3 families - 6 adults (Mark, Amanda, Steve, Tina, Martin & Krassi) & 4 children (Taylor, Brandon, Charlie & paige) in all & it took around 2 1/2 hours from Budapest airport to get there. We spent 2 days skiing in Bankut (1/2 hour drive from hotel) & also went to the cave baths at Miskolc-Tapolca (15 min drive in the oposite direction)which cost around £10 for a family of 4 but was unique & worth the visit to Hungary alone. The skiing worked out at £5 per day for hire of boots skis & sticks & £2.50 for 7 "lifts" on the ski-lift. It is suitable for the novice skier & has lessons at just £3 per person per hour! The hotel was excellent at around £50 per day half board for a family of 4. It was very clean & the food was superb.
