This hotel is a little worn around the edges, but more than makes up for it by being situated on the bank of the beautiful Lake Balaton. Outstanding views from our balcony. Room was spotless and bathroom compact but new and also spotless. Buffet breakfast vast, everything from bread and pastries, cereal, fresh fruit, sausages, eggs, French toast, yoghurt, pickled... I you want a taste of what it was like to be an apparatchik in Communist Hungary in the 1960s, this is the hotel for you. For those old enough to remember such places, or their western equivalents, it is more likely to bring on nightmares. At the very least it demonstrates how tourism has moved on since then. This... It's a budget hotel, crowded, and works on an all inclusive basis. Although it says so, it doesn't really have access a beach on the Balaton (the southern shore of the Balaton offers much better beach options). But there were activities for the children (although English is almost not spoken --mostly German), handcrafts, cooking, and the like. The rooms are... More

Hotel Helikon is the best choice. We are here every spring, because all around are beautiful cycle routs. It is for us beginning of bicycle season. Rooms are pleasant, meals very good. We can swim every morning and evening in swimming pool and go to sauna. Some of our sportsman clients were here 3 and more times and I am... More

We had a 4-night stay in Helikon Hotel at the beginning of May. The hotel is very well located - close to the railway and bus station, on the bank of the lake and in walking distance to all museums and city centre. The outlook of the building incl. the common rooms and corridors are in the 80ies socialist style... More

Our vintage Rough Guide to Hungary describes this as a "1970's Eyesore" and they are right. This hotel exterior is a prime example of 1970s communist architecture, still when you look out over the beautiful lake Balaton, you forget all about that. Rooms were nice, bathrooms recently refurbished. Staff was very friendly, but service was uneven. There was a tremendous... More

We were in this hotel with my family vacation. The restaurant and the food was very good especially the breakfasts. If you arrive in morning breakfast time, you can sit out to terrace. The room sadly so small for us (one wife, one kid, and myself). The wifi only works in the hall. The hotel's beach is very simple, but... More

We have booked the Hotel for visiting interesting sites in the area, like Festetics Castle, Sümeg Castle, Hévíz, Szigliget Castle, etc. We have been unsatisfied with room; it was cold, very small TV set. Since there were only a few guests the variety of food was poor. What we could really enjoy it was the indoor svimming pool and the... More

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. We were booked in for three nights but left after just one. The staff were rude and unhelpful (even denying it in front of us when questioned). The non smoking room smelt of smoke, the balcony was tiny (forget about fitting a chair on it). The decor was circa 1976 and... More

First of all, no airconditioner but this is a three star hotel!!! Little but clean hotel, old style furniture and reception, worth to stay here, but no wait for luxury environment. Has an own swimming pool with saunas and fittness, own island on the lake of Balaton and free paddle boat, kenu, etc.
