Rust, cockroaches, dirt...what a disappointment. Only the restaurant is renovated, but at the breakfast the attendant ( not waiter) was a highly tattooed guy in T shirt with a political slogan in it. The view from the hotel is magnificent, the location is excellent, but the hotel itself is sad.

Visited Debrecen for the long 1 May weekend with friends, due irs unique location, wiev and reputatipn. From outside it is still great and with perfect location, but from inside....in the rooms only the baths are OK and we were in a "renovated" room.Dirty walls, seatings are old and usef, with clear dots, the balcony would be stunning,if it would not been covered with birds leftover.Very thin... Really the only positive thing about this hotel is its place right on the main square of Debrecen. Even the renovated rooms are tragic. the only piece that seems to be renovated is the bathroom, but certainly not well and not with quality materials. you can literally hear everything your neighbors are doing and saying. its restaurant is a joke,... WHAT I LIKED: I was amazed by it''s architecture. In the lobby it felt like in the "Grand Hotel Budapest" movie. Situated in the very center of the town is perfect for sightseeing. Continental breakfast. The lobby, the ART are both breathtaking, the rooms are really large. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Thou very large and generally clean, the rooms are... More

The location is excellent, right on the main drag. The hotel has beautiful decor, lighting, paintings, statues, furniture, stained glass windows, and a nice atmosphere. It has a somewhat grand and old-fashioned style, which really appeals to me. It was fairly empty when I was there, so it was also very quiet. The staff were always helpful and friendly. The... More

Pro: big clean rooms (equipped with towels, shampoo, hairdryer and etc), tasty continental breakfast, nice view on the main square, historical building, central location, good heating, LCD TV with foreign language channels, good restaurants nearby; Cons: little bit noisy; P.S. During our 2 nights stay, we didn't meet any bugs as was written in warnings.

If I was asked to stay again, I would take the money and buy a sleeping bag for the park bench instead... Do not stay here. This hotel is in exceptionally poor condition. For the price you can stay in decent modern clean hotels just round the corner. As an overview the room was delapidated, bare wires, dusty in general... More

I read the recent reviews with interest and amusement. My wife and nine-year old daughter stayed at the Aranybika on the night of July 1st, 1988 (Yes, you read that date correctly, 1988. Disregard whatever other date you read on this review..) We thought it a crummy hotel even then, awarding it only a grade of "C-." That compared with... More

The hotel is perfectly located on the City's main drag in a beautiful fin de siécle building. We were given a slightly shabby but spacious and comfortable room on the third floor with its own front-facing balcony. After dropping our bags we headed out and didn't return until almost 1am. That was when the fun started. I went out on... More

I stayed one night in this hotel and I would not recommend it to others. There were dead cockroaches on the stairs. The room was technically clean but it felt in disrepair. It was very noisy the night that I stayed. Beware if there is a function on in the hotel, the music and/or DJ can be heard from all... More
