The hotel needs some refreshing buth the double rooms are nice. If you can, avoid rooms directly on the bridge. Reception employees not smiling, not cooperative, not really willing to please you. Should you stay there, be prepared to do everything by yourself. Preferably pay in local money as their conversions into other moneys are very benefitting..... for them ! more

Visited Budapest and stayed in the Matyas hotel in Feb 2009 for by birthday with my partner. Had an overall good trip to this lovely city. The Matyas hotel is old and very basic. We booked a double room and when we arrived got a key for a cupboard, the room was very dark, low ceilings, smelt of cheap aftershave... more

Hotel right where you want to be, handy for everything, close to bars, restaurants etc. Hotel traditional looking from the outside and a bit dark and dingy when you first go in but once inside rooms they are basic but clean and on the modern side. Very secure as you have a room electronic card, and each room is in... more

We arrived early and there was no problem in checking in a few hours early, the staff were really helpful and also arranged our return transfers for us. The outside of the building and when you first walk inside is very unique and to start with we thought we were in the wrong place. However once you walk through another... more

Really helpful to read other reviews and yes it was a central spot to stay and we did request a room which had a view of the Danube. Easy to find, using train and buses. On return just used metro and airport bus. Good to have a guide book on Budapest for info on main sights and buy 3 day ticket... more

Hotel right where you want to be, handy for everything, Hotel traditional looking from the outside and also the galleried courtyards in the interior of the hotel, but once inside rooms basic but clean and modern. Very secure as you have a room electronic card, and each room is in a small block which only this card opens as well,... more

At first we thought the hotel was a bit like the Adams Family meets the Munsters, but once checked into a more than adequate room, realised that this was just part of the charm of this hotel. There were four couples in our party, and all our rooms were next to each other, and my husband and I got one... more

My husband booked this hotel after researching the area. The location was perfect, just off the main walking district and only a few feet from the Elizabeth Bridge. When we first arrived, both of us almost panicked when the desk clerk told us we had room #2 and that we had to walk downstairs and across a courtyard. The courtyard... more

The hotel, as said before, is a bit run down and old-fashioned, beds are small, no airco in the room but what do you expect for € 100 incl breakfast in the city centre. On the positive: rooms are clean, staff is generally friendly and the location is very convenient. more
