The first impression was not the greatest, an old bulding with some strange decoration. The staff were helpful and the room was ok, in spite of the old look. The best thing about the hotel is that there's a tram station and a metro station in front of it so it's very simple to go to tourist attactions of Budapest.... more

This hotel is a beautiful building - very ornate and decorative. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. The staff were reasonably helpful but could not direct us to a laundry - we finally found one just around the corner by using the internet! The reception staff did not have a very good understanding of English but were... more

We got a rate of $108 on this hotel, which is a nice value in the city. Staff were polite and helpful. Common areas were absolutely beautiful and ornate. Room was also nicely decorated and the bathroom was very nice. My only complaint was that my bed was uncomfortable; I could feel some of the springs poking up from the... more

This hotel is fairly well located especially if arriving/departing from Budapest Keleti Station. It is a pretty, and interesting building. It is overpriced for the quality of rooms, which are drab and not well sized. But they are adequate and clean. The breakfast is extra (3500 HUF per person) which is the price for which a family of four could... more

Beautiful hotel! I got a great rate and was very impressed on arrival. From the outside it is lovely but inside you are greeted by an art deco style of luxury and a wonderful staircase. I skipped the 14 Euro breakfast. The hotel is right next to the Metro station although you can walk pretty much anywhere as well. There... more

This hotel is well located and there is a busy tram stop opposite and a metro subway 50 yards away. The public transport system in Budapest is superb! If you fancy a walk, it's about a 20 minute walk to the Danube and Grand Market. There are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance and as the area is... more

It's hard to imagine more convenient public transit. There's a metro station as well as a tram stop right outside the front door. Public transit is prompt and efficient - we rarely waited more than a few minutes for either the metro or a tram. We purchased a tourist pass for public transit - tickets are checked frequently and fines... more

My wife and I spent three nights in the Mercure Nemzeti. The hotel is ideally located. We arrived by train and the hotel is 2 city blocks from the train station so we were able to walk. There is an underground station opposite the hotel as well as a tram stop where trams 4 and 6 go round Pest and... more

We booked this hotel based on the (mostly) positive reviews here, and we weren't disappointed. Coming out from the metro station (Blaha Lujza ter), there is a sign pointing to the exit staircase for Nemzeti, so it's not difficult to find. The hotel looks even more amazing in real than in pictures: handsome facade, grand staircase, ornate decoration. It's like... more

We enjoyed our stay for the overall level of comfort, in relation to price, and convenient location within the city for explorations to be done on-foot. We rarely needed to use the metro and only once took a tram in four days. Our booking included buffet breakfast so we had no issues about being charged extra for it, as cited... more
