This is a different hotel experience, but a good one. The location in Budapest is terrific, quite close to the Dohany Synagogue, a stone's throw from a Metro station, and walking distance to restaurants. Breakfast is delivered to your room at the requested hour, the air conditioning kept us comfortable in August heat, and street noise is at a minimum.... more

The Budapest Karoly Central is a bit of a weird "hotel" in the sense that it doesn't look or really feel like one. Locating the hotel is a pretty impossible task since to find it, you have to go into a courtyard of a bunch of buildings (only if you can actually find the courtyard), take a really old elevator... more

The hotel is very nicely located for walks along the Danube and has quite a few sights nearby - with the Jewish Synagogue right across the street. Had I not already read about the unconventional entrance I would have been worried that the taxi driver had dropped us off at the wrong location! Map or no map, I doubt if I would have found the hotel without the taxi driver (who charged us a fortune). The dirty, graffiti laden "entrance", with no easily visible sign (we saw it later after knowing what to look for) in sight, the cramped old elevator, the dirty balcony down a long hall to a thoroughly modern desk... more

I stayed at Budapest Karoly Central for four nights in June. I read how difficult it is to find. I printed the detailed directions on the hotel web site and had no problems even on a quiet Sunday afternoon arrival. Without the directions, it would be tough.
