We took a family trip to Krakow, then Auschwitz in July 2007.
Auschwitz is about 1.5 hour by bus from Krakow. Rather than return to Krakow after the museum visit, we stayed in this bed and breakfast (Agroturystyka). It is located in a small village named Skidzin, about 7km from the town of Oswiecim.
The place is brand new, modern and sparkling clean. It is built as a large house, with perhaps 10-12 rooms on two floors. It's surrounded by a garden, some fields and other houses in an exceedingly quiet, very pretty location. It felt pastoral, fresh and relaxing.
The owners operate a cafe-restaurant nearby, where you can have your meals. They are kind and polite. They went out of their way to be helpful. They cooked us dinner late at night, then got up very early the next morning in order to serve us breakfast. The food was outstanding and inexpensive.
I was afraid that staying close to Auschwitz would feel strange,
