Imagine this. We are perched on top of a mountain with views out across the calm sparkling waters of the Osa Peninsular to Panama, surrounded by unspoiled rain forest in a luxury yet eco friendly resort. The water water in the pool is warm and it is silent apart from the sounds of nature. Macaws fly overhead, a pair of... More

We did this as our first trip to Costa Rica many years ago. We have no regrets but did not wind up returning . It is very pricey and you are treated beautifully, however, I'm an extreme nature lover and there were a few things that didn't jive with me timing wise. They have fixed meal times and if you... My family and I stayed at Lapa Rios for 5 nights Dec/Jan. What an amazing and wonderful experience. From the location itself, to the wildlife we saw, to the friendly and knowledgeable staff we talked with, to the tours and awesome guides - it was all great. Well, honestly, being from New Hampshire USA, it took us some time to... More

Lapa Rios never disappoints. Weather perfect, amazing cabins with terrace overlooking the sea complete with resident toucan and scarlet macaws. Heaven... This time I stayed in cabin 14 ( on the lower level) and it was terrific BUT one must be aware that unlike cabins 1-10, which are relatively close to the restaurant, cabins 11-17 are quite a distance from... How do you begin to describe? This resort is a five star facility perched on its own 1000 acres of natural wonder with breath taking views of the Pacific Ocean. The rooms and restaurant/lodge facilities are unique and very accommodating. We stayed in Bungalow #8 with an incredible view overlooking the Pacific ocean and beaches 400 feet below. The rooms... Our travel agent strongly recommend to experience the eco lodge and Lapa Rios had not only provided the mind opening experience but also an educational one. We are certainly the guests there whilst the wildlife are the kings and Queens of the jungle. This hotel demonstrated how we should respect and support the wildlife. Every aspect of the hotel been... Lapa Rios is a marvelous place which practices conservation and sustainability in every aspect of their operations. Staff is highly trained, gracious and helpful. 3 of us, all in our seventies, stayed in bungalow 5 with magnificent views. We had 60 steps to climb to the main lodge so one must be fit and able to climb to stay at... More

Who would think that trampling through a rainforest in a downpour, sweating, wearing Wellingtons because the mud is everywhere, could be so much fun?? Lapa Rios is the kind of place where you can really get into the outdoors and then return to your luxurious cabina for an outdoor shower in your private (except for monkeys, toucans and scarlett macaws)... We stayed for 5 days/4 nights and we loved every minute of it except our departure (we really wanted to stay longer!). The guides were knowledgeable and care about making this the best experience of your life. The food was out of this world and I recommend you try every single thing on that menu as we did, including the... More

What a wonderful and special place this is! Start of the off season, so there were only a few other guests. The food was outstanding. The tour guides were really great at pointing out the various animals, butterflies, even bats. Very attentive staff, overall, and I look forward to going back again.
