We spent a week at Onar this June, as a 'kick back' after a rather hectic month in Greece, and it's hard to say enough about what a lovely, unique place it is. Mateo, the owner and host, first saw this valley when he was 14 having landed at the beach with his brother. The houses and cottages, supported by... More

We just loved spending 3 days in Onar before visiting the rest of the island et staying in a less secluded place. Wonderful relaxing stay, welcomed upon arrival with a delicious barbecue on a beach, beautiful surprise ! The host is friendly and so are the guests, coming from all over the world, couples or families with young children (not... More

We loved every minute of our time at Onar, which is the ideal place to go if you want to be "off the grid" completely in one of the most beautiful and remote spots in all of Greece. It's a place to relax and be close to nature in all its glory (Achla beach is as close to heaven as... More

We came to Onar in June for our honeymoon and stayed one week. This is a unique place. It is hard to believe that you can still find places like this in Europe. We arrived after a bumpy drive along sheer cliffs dropping into the Aegean and wild goats and sheep scrambling down into the valley. A monastery sits on... More

Just returned from our first visit, one week of the simple life. It's like Greece was 30 years ago. The reviews and website don't tell the whole picture. It is a beautiful isolated place and is extremely relaxing. Everything works well when the owner is there which is not always. It is staffed by some young male Phillipinos whose English... More

The title of the review says it all. We have enjoyed once again our stay at Onar. What is there more to add? We enjoyed the rustic cuisine with Greek authenticity . Location is amazing as last year and trees and wild has grown beautifully with the setting. Our 5year old son loves the place! Mateo the owner / Manager... More

Just returned from a mid May week long visit. We loved our time here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Onar gives seclusion, relaxation and a beautiful setting away from the stress of city life. May was a great month for wild herbs and flowers, and being pre season, had hardly any outsiders on the local stunning beach. The water... More

We were very pleased to have chosen Onar for an early holiday and it was just how we expected it to be. The cottage was very well designed and very comfortable. The stream with its fairytale pools and waterfalls was magical, as was the walk down through wild flowers to the beautiful and very private beach with a chapel at... More

I am so happy to have chosen this wonderful place for my Yoga-Teacher-Training. We were 18 people in total and we all felt in love at the first sight with Onar. The natur protected area is absolutely stunning and the stone cottages fit it perfectly. Their interior is very stylish, and cosy at the same time and offer a comfort... More

Marvellous stone houses in the bottom of an isolated valley next to a private beach, perfect place to come and chill out completely. Rooms are big, very comfy and clean with nice little outdoor areas, so you can have your own personal space but can also be sociable and friendly in the communal dinner area with free wine and beer.... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Onar is located near Ahla beach. With respect to the protected park of the Ahla wetlands and inspired by Nature itself, we created a small settlement of nine individual, traditional cottages spreading next to the river and the plane trees. The harmony in design and construction of the cottages will put you in touch with nature. The cottages of ONAR benefit from the silent beauty of Cycladic architecture and are made exclusively of natural products: local stone, wood and river reeds. In the inside, minimal furniture and details of reeds and wood in white and earthy colors are harmoniously combined. All the cottages have a sitting room, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, an open fireplace and a paved courtyard sheltered by a pergola. Large windows allow the day light in, provide for coolness during summer nights and give the sense of being outdoors.Staying in one of these ONAR cottages, with their emphasis on being at one with the natural environment, and enjoying simple and genuine Greek hospitality will make your dreams come true. ... more   less
