The Cecil Guesthouse is located off Katoomba Street and can be a bit tricky to find at night. There is a narrow alley leading to the guesthouse and its parking lot. However, the location is excellent as its very close to a Coles mart and the town centre which has many restaurants and shopping options. The room itself was a... More

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights and thought the place was great value for money. The linen was crisp and clean, the breakfast generous, and there was a lot of space in the communal area to just sit and relax. It's situated down a little lane off the main street and can be easily missed if you... More

This hotel is not for those who like flawless modernity. The basics are all there - extremely clean and new linens, comfortable beds, and powerful showers. What requires some imagination and open-mindedness is the decor. An old boarding house - the wall paper, carpets and furnishings all seems to date between 1930 and 1970 (please note that I've put the... More

We call the Cecil "faded glory" because it's a run down once grand guest house. We love the price ($80 for two midweek off peak including continental breakfast), the informality and we love the fact that it's tatty. Windows don't close properly and lightbulbs are sometimes scarce but we've always slept well and love the common areas where you can... More

We stayed here for one night . The location is excellent , only a short walk from the train station . The guest house is very old and is being currently renovated. Our room was quite clean and comfortable , The staff was extremely helpful. Lots of eating places close by , there is a grocery store across the street... More

I spent a lovely time at the Cecil. This house is very charming. It's old & some things need fixing, but this is being done constantly (the new managers, Hemi & Steph, only took over this place 4 month ago). Everybody at the Cecil was very helpful & made sure I enjoyed my time there. The best thing about my... More

We stayed here on NYE and while the staff were friendly and our room clean, the guesthouse is extremely run down and not managed well. The steps are broken walking in, no one seemed to know which room was ours, no one was around when we tried to pay when leaving and there was rubbish overflowing in the outside bins.... More

It was an ominous beginning, a car battery and a large piece of metal laying in the car park set the scene for the rest of the stay here. After walking down the broken steps to reception we were greeted by a very confused lady, followed by an equally confused man and followed by another somewhat confused lady who all... More
