I stayed at Los Holandeses twice. The first time, in 2004, it was heavenly. Jos & Ans, the Dutch couple who built the property, were incredible hosts. I returned for a longer stay in 2005-2006 to discover that they had sold to a new manager. Quality had significantly declined and there were many security problems including guests being attacked on their patios and items stolen from their rooms (I had a laptop stolen, my friend's jewellery was stolen). It may have improved since then - I am only posting this because the previous reviewer praised Jos & Ans (as do I) but if you go expecting them and their wonderful service, you might be disappointed. more

I spent five great nights here in January 2004. I rented a small simple cabin with fridge and private shower/wc (immaculate), but there are larger units with kitchen available for a little more. The seven units are set among the trees a short walk from the wonderful Playa Bonita, and presided over by Jos & Ans, a great Dutch couple who do all they can to make their guests comfortable. You can buy all the essentials like bread (and beer!) from their house or rent a small motor bike for a reasonable rate if you don't fancy the walk into Las Terrenas. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the Samana Peninsula without spending a fortune. more
