Recent Trips: Sandals Royal Bahamian – Nassau, Bahamas, Gran Bahia Principe Coba - Mayan Riviera Mexico. REVIEW IN SHORT: I would rate this resort a 4* Very nice resort, very clean. Absolutely stunning beach. Good food. Friendly staff. Great place for families with young children or people looking for a quiet peaceful place. If you are looking for lots to... more
Our stay (05/10 - 05/17) at the GBP El Portillio was nothing short of fantastic. It exceeded our expectations ten fold. I travel a great deal for a living and after a particularly hectic first quarter, R&R was in order for my wife and I. My point of reference as a comparison in this review is my extensive travel throughout... more
Due to our media induced paranoia of catching the swine flu my friends and I decided to cancel our trip to Cancun. Our travel agent worked very hard to find nine travelers a last minute flight and all inclusive resort outside of Mexico. So we ended up by default at the Bahia Principe el Portillo. We had to fly into... more
My wife and I spent a week at the Bahia Principe El Portillo in early May. We travelled with Air Canada Vacations. FLYING Flight between Toronto and Samana was about four hours. They newer Airbus Air Canada planes are fairly comfortable, though I found the seats to be a bit hurtful after 4 hours. Meals cost money - bring your... more
Just got back on May 11th, 2009 for the El Portillo. Got a really good deal through Air Canada, so couldn't pass it up. The grounds are as nice as any resort we have stayed at. Lots of palm trees and walk ways. So many different types of trees it was hard to believe. We are beach walkers, and so... more
My friend and I just got back from staying a week at the GBP El Portillo and it was just great! I have done a lot of travelling and this far exceeded my expectations. After reading reviews on here I think some people have the 'North American 5 Star' rating in mind...and to tell the truth it didn't fall too... more
The location is good in general. The beach is beautiful. Unfortunately the sea is too shallow for normal swimming. So you should be careful not to wound yourself by a reef. The reefs in some places are just 1m from the shore! But there are also some areas for swimming. There is a band of cool coral fishes near the... more
We've just returned from a week stay at the GBP El Portillo and we had a great time. We went the week of April 4-11/09. I can only tell you that from our experience at this resort we really liked it. We are a couple in their mid 40s and we have travelled to Cuba, Mexico and this is our... more
My wife and I spent News Years at this resort and found the resort very nice but isolated with very little to do except enjoy the beach which was great. The trip from the airport is 1 1/2 hours but the bus was comfortable. Our trip was through Transat holidays out of Toronto which the package was supposed to have... more
