We went to Costa Rica May 19th for a one week vacation. May is the beginning of the wet season, so we weren't sure what the weather would be like. The weather was great! It rained at night and early mornings, so it never really interfered with our days on the beach or at the pool. The rooms are clean... More

We stayed at the Riu Guanacaste in June of 2011 and would definitely recommend the resort. First, the pool was very nice. The beach was in a cove around a mile long and had lush scenery and hills in the background. Definitely a postcard-like look. The beach had brownish-black sand that was different than the Caribbean side and definitely hot... More

Costa Rica itself, and Playa Matapalo where RIU is located, is absolutely stunning. The dry forests and volcanic sand beaches seen/experienced from the hotel are fantastic. BEACH The beach is volcanic sand, so it's not pristine white. That does not mean it's dirty, though! The hotel staff clean, pick-up and rake that beach all day long. Considering all beaches in... Stayed here for a week following mega Costa Rica tour. Not a fan of all inclusives as a rule but this was marvellous. Yes, it's huge but it's run like clockwork. Newish hotel which has been really well thought out. Food can't be faulted, bars good and varied. Maybe because it's a tad more expensive, it's lacking the US/Canadian ''ere... More

It was my friends 30th birthday so a few of us decided to head out to Costa Rica b/c none of us have ever been. Landing into Liberia was eye-opening...everything was so green, even though it was the end of the "dry-season". Getting out of the airport was a bit intimidating as there are tons of cabbies who want to... More

I stayed here with my husband for a week in February and found the standard of the hotel very good. Very clean with nice restaurants and good facilities, the evening entertainment is also quite good for this type of place if that is your thing. Costa Rica is an amazing place and the people are very nice. We borrowed one... More

My husband and I traveled alone for this trip and it was both our first visit to Costa Rica and our first stay at a RIU hotel. Overall we were very happy with the trip but after staying at much nicer all-inclusives in Mexico (Palace Resorts and Grand Sirenis) we were left a little disappointed at times. RIU Guanacaste is... My husband and I stayed at the RIU for the last half of our honeymoon. We loved the accommodations - food at the buffet was great and the room was gorgeous. The bed, unfortunately, we really not comfortable (and loud - sounded like it had plastic on the mattress), but the view was amazing - we had a corner room,... More

This was our first trip to Costa Rica but we had stayed at the Riu Palace in Cabo in the past. We thought that staying at the Riu in CR would be a good way to take away one of the variables that can make or break your vacation. The property is beautiful and the shows were the best we... More

We stayed at the Riu Guanacaste from May 21 through May 28 with our two children, ages 8 and 11. We all enjoyed the resort and we loved Costa Rica. At a cost of only $210/night for all of us, including food and drinks, we found the Riu to be an amazing value. It served as a great home base... More
