My wife and I travelled to the Riu Guanacaste to celebrate my retirement. We stayed for 14 days (March 29 – April 12). Upon arrival Saturday evening, we were offered our room on the first floor, jungle side. We had requested a room on either the fourth or fifth floor and the next morning, the Front Desk Manager, Heidi, was... More

Five of us stayed for 4 nights, five days! Couldn't pass up the deal, all inclusive! The resort is beautiful and immaculate. Rooms are large, bathrooms are large and clean. Beach was nice, no umbrellas so little crowed in the shade tree areas but very pretty. The water is not the clear blue you see on the East Coast due... More

We stayed at the Riu Guanacaste with another couple in February 2014. It was a wonderfully relaxing trip! We started our first day with a day on the beach. The beach has lots of sun, as well as shade! Which is perfect for people like me who burn easy! That day we saw one wedding take place and we did... More

Just completed a wonderful family vacation here with our 3 daughters. Looking for a family trip with excellent entertainment, facilities, food, service and nature? also, trying to maintain costs under control -without being cheap- while keeping all the family happy? then this place is for you. Much better than competition hotels of its class in Cancun (weather is way better... More

When our family stayed at the Riu hotel, we went to the italian restaurant first, the name of it La Tuscana, it was disgusting. The only two good things were the host and the salad bar. The main courses were disgusting. The waiter had a good humor because when my dad ordered the filet of steak he asked for it... More

We stayed at the Riu Guanacaste in April 2014. Our room was facing the mountains. Every morning and late afternoon we were treated to the sights and sounds of the monkeys and exotic birds singing. We would rise early every morning and sit on our balcony and be entertained! The food was amazing . It did not matter whether we... More

We booked a trip to Riu Guanacaste after a friend recommended it to us. We were interested in going to Costa Rica as a family (we have a 3 year old and a 9 year old and traveled with another family with 3 kids ranging in ages from 1-9). We prefer the all inclusive resorts when traveling with our young... More

Last minute family vacation with kids aged 11 & 13 Lots of attractions and day trips, covered in separate reviews, overall would highly recommend Costa Rica as a family destination - safe, good standard of living, lots of eco/biodiversity Overall, the resort was very nice and well run, had more of a Costa Rica feel than the newer and very... This was our 3rd Riu, and our favorite! We had an excellent vacation. The resort is beautiful, great beach, great food, great staff. Now, some details: We had an ocean view room on the 5th floor, with a great view of the pool area and beach. Any room facing the inner courtyard gets quite loud during the show each night,... More

This was our second stay at a Riu all-inclusive resort. The first was at the Riu Jalisco in 2011. Most Riu resorts are set up the same way. The building is U-shaped with the large opening facing the ocean. This makes the beautiful grounds pretty private. It also means that it is a walk from your room to the beach.... More
