Although staying elsewhere in Russell, we chose to dine at the Duke, reputedly the oldest licensed premises in NZ. The hotel has been able to combine old world charm with modern cuisine. Our meals were delicious, the staff very friendly and the outlook over the water lovely. Although quite crowded, we didn't have to wait too long for our meals.... More

Stayed here for 3 nights in Room One overlooking the waterfront. The view is outstanding. The room was light, spacious and very comfortable. Lovely bathroom with a separate toilet. Bed was extremely comfortable. It was definitely worth the extra cost as I think the rooms in the more modern extension are much smaller. All the staff were friendly and helpful... More

We were spoilt for choice in Russell but chose D of M because we wanted to savour the atmosphere before eating. The decor was very old fashioned but each table was prepared beautifully. The food was everything that we had hoped for. From a varied menu we chose mushroom and blue cheese soup, we shared a slow cooked shoulder of... More

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights back in September. We had to go with the most basic room, because it was the only room left for our dates (just shows how popular this place is!). The hotel has really gorgeous decor, and a lovely view over the harbour and across to the Treaty Grounds. We... More

If you're looking for a classically stunning hotel set in a beautiful location, you really could not go wrong with the Duke. From check-in to check-out the experience was 5star. Waking up to a view of Russell from the classically styled, and thoughtfully designed and equipped room was a pleasure.

Beautiful hotel with old world charm. One of the highlights of the island - a must visit place. They serve hot and cold food overlooking the bay. We sat outside the Hotel and just had coffee but if we returned we would consider a stay there. If you looking for a place with atmosphere this is it!

Were very fortunate to arrive via car ferry due to excessive weather conditions. Once settled with the traditional fish and chips meal it was all go. Enjoyed the Birdman Festival and all the effort the locals put into running it, from wok cook offs to treasure hunts it was full on fun for three days, well done

Spent two nights at this delightful hotel. The rooms at the front were a little different to those on the sides however after looking at one of my friends room it is safe to say there are all pretty good. All the staff (reception, bars, housekeeping, restaurant) were really friendly, down to earth and looked as if they were enjoying... More
