We stayed in an "affordable luxury" room at the Avalon over christmas 2006. If you're on your way to Abel Tasman, this motel in nearby Motueka is a great place to stay. This is not a luxury acommodation, but the rooms are new, clean, comfortable, and bright. By luck we found this wonderful motel in the tidy, quiet town of Motueka (30 minutes from Nelson) at the top of the South Island and gateway to Golden Bay. Incredible place to stay while exploring Abel Tasman. The room was almost new with a king size bed, spa bathtub, plasma TV, DVD (free rentals), and kitchenette. Great value (NZ$150). more
