We stayed for one night in early Jan and would have happily stayed longer. Real attention to detail by the hosts on making our stay comfortable. (E.g. blanket provided for watching the Blue Penguins, hot water bottle, choice of tea in the room, plenty of breakfast choices). Excellent rooms and breakfasts, and lots of useful info on the area. Oamaru offers a backdrop you can't create in Las Vegas or Universal Studios. A town preserved from Victorian times. Whole streets untouched for over 100 years. Our stay with Marilyn and Don was also unique. They offer a level of service one can rarely find these days. Great attention to detail, anticipating every need and the warmth of welcome. So... More

Oamaru was planned to be just a break in the journey from Dunedin to Christchurch airport and home, but Don and Marilyn revived us with tea and cake and encouraged us to fill the rest of the day with pleasure. Janet Frame's house, the little train, the old town, Annie's tearooms were followed by dinner at the harbour, and two... More

What can we say - absolutely wonderful! Nothing is too much trouble and having just driven from Invercargil we greatly appreciated all of the little touches like carrying bags up the stair, hot water bottles at night, turning down the bed and delicious, home-made slices. Don and Marilyn went out of their way to make us feel at home and... More

We agree with all the comments from the other reviews. Don and Marilyn were kind and attentive hosts who could not do enough for us . All those little touches such as hot water bottles, homemade cake all made this a very special stop for us . So much better than often faceless hotels. It was also a pleasure to... More

The experience started from the first email exchange. Don suggested an iternary for our one night stay, a dinner at Fleurs Place in Moraki bay, on of the top seafood restaurants in NZ, followed by a walk to the Moraki lighthouse to see the seals and penguins, and back to Omaru by 9pm to see the blue penguin returning home.... Don and Marilyn blew us away with their welcome, their generosity and their rhubarb. We arrived about 11pm after penguin watching with empty stomachs. Despite the late hour Marilyn happily produced the finest toasties (homemade bread) we've ever tasted. More freshly baked goodies waited for us in our room. The breakfast was probably the most delicious of our two week... More

From the time we did our online booking to our departure after a hearty breakfast,Don and Marilyn did everything they could to make our stay in the area full and rewarding.
