We stayed one night and were very impressed with the layout and comfort. I was brewing a cold and the spa bath was most welcome. I have stayed in Kaikoura many times and this is the best place I have stayed. It is also a short walk to town.

What a lovely motel. Large comfortable rooms. Bed was one of the most comfortable I have found in a motel for ages. Very clean. Free DVD's. A perfect place to stay after a big day. A meal at the Whaler and a look at the night sky. PERFECT

Was a rainy winters night but the motel quickly warmed up. Spa bath was exceptional, great size and sufficient hot water, great bubble action. A few misses in bathroom cleaning wise, hair around toilet floor. Everything one would want for an overnight stay. Would recommend.

I came here with my husband, they have a really nice and friendly staff. The location was perfect, not too far away from the center of town but far enough that you were not bothered by noise. The rooms are clean and comfortable. 100% recomended

We stayed here about 5 years ago and liked its position close to town as well as the spacious rooms. The spa studio is around 40sqm and the 1-bedroom was around 60 sqm. This time we took a one-bedroom unit expecting a bedroom and a lounge. In reality the bedroom had 2 single beds and the main room had a... More

We have stayed at the Kaikoura Gateway twice now, its very reasonably priced and well positioned being on the main highway. For this trip we arrived quite late and needed to get some documents printed scanned and emailed, the host was super helpful in doing this for us and went out of his way to help which we really appreciated.... In desperate need for a spa bath after days on the road, this gem came up trumphs in cost and availability. A luxury room where we could spread out. Warm welcoming space close to eateries. Information easy to follow, simple. Did not notice or hear the neighbouring rooms although it was quite busy. Nice warm welcome. Value for money and... More

Had a 2 night stay here as part of my South Island tour. Had a self catering unit on first floor, it was spacious, had a large bathroom and everything I needed was in the unit. About a 10 min walk into the main street of the town. Unit faced main road but road noise wasn't really a problem.

We stayed here on our way down the east coast, mainly to go out whale watching. Nice clean room; comfortable bed; kitchen area; on site laundry. About 5 minutes walk from the town centre and sea front. Not much in the town itself apart from a few cafes/bars but the place is geared for outdoor activities.

This motor lodge offered a very clean and spacious unit and our unit was super quiet which meant a great nights sleep and the bed was very comfortable. The unit was well appointed and is close (walking distance) to the main street. We will certainly return when staying in Kaikoura next.
