This motel quite rightly scores very well on reviews. Its well run by owners who have pitched it absolutely perfectly. The room had all the facilities you could need with a well equipped bathroom and a comfortable bed. We were in Kaikoura for the whale watching and were delighted to have stayed here with good advice and recommendations from the... More

We spent two nights here in room 21 and were very impressed by the quality and cleanliness of the accommodation. Room 21 is a ground floor room at the rear of the site. Although it doesn't have "views", it's away from the main road and therefore very quiet. Also as it's an "accessible" room, it's very spacious. The bed was... More

The Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge was excellent - large room with kitchenette, roomy bathroom, and it was clean and comfortable. They were happy to give us a late checkout because we were doing an activity in town (eg swim with dolphins).

Stayed for 5 nights over Christmas 2014. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and were prompt to point out that the upstairs room we had booked, whilst having a view (over the adjacent park rather than the sea) and the spa bath would have road noise from the state highway 1 which runs immediately past outside with a... Left booking late so had limited choice, but very pleased with this place. Clean, modern, spacious and restful room. Parking a little tight in back units, but not a problem. Great location, highly recommended after long drive from Dunedin. Spa bath lovely and left refreshed after a good night's sleep, and you can't always say that with some motel beds!

Lovely modern motel with large rooms. Room was very clean and tidy and owners very helpful. We only stayed one night but could have easily stayed longer as everything we needed was available in our room. One of the best motels ever.

The hosts went out of their way to ensure we got our request of an upstairs quiet room. Awesome mountain views. Modern clean spacious room with roomy balcony to sit out on. Rooms are double glazed. Nice to have a motel in kaikoura with a pool as not many do. It was 30 degrees when we stayed so very refreshing.

We were just staying for one night on our way through town. The room was typical motel style with a nice kitchenette, fully equipped. Room was clean and the staff friendly in pointing out some of the local attractions and activities. The parking in some areas is a bit tight and you could be bothered by highway noise if your... This is a motel of good quality and well equipped. The pool while not large looked inviting, ,although the temps were not enticing enough to try it out. The kitchen had a larger fridge than normal and all the equipment you would need. The bathroom is spacious as we had a shower, not a bath in ours. Our upstairs unit... More

Management were friendly and knowledgeable. The room was clean and modern. We had an upstairs room with a magnificent view and a spa bath. Great cooking facilities available in the room but I would have been good to have some essentials like cooking oil or butter and jam in the fridge. Overall fantastic place to stay.
