Been meaning to write this review for so long! Stayed here for one night in November. I was travelling by myself and was so grateful for such a warm welcome from the owners and their few staff who helped out. The owner was so lovely and gave me a crayfish for my dinner! Such a kind man! And it was... More

We stayed here for one night in a double room. The room was en suite. The bed was comfortable. The room seemed fairly clean. The kitchen was big and there was plenty of room for everyone to do their cooking. You could sit outside in the sun and eat your food. There was a really nice and friendly lady on... More

Stated at this hostel recently for the kiwi experience. We were greeted by the receptionist who is a fun and a little eccentric character, who made check in enjoyable! They even have an adorable small dog. The hostel has dorms with a sliding door to each room. I stated in a 5 bed dorm with an ensure (desperate shower and... More

The Lazy Shag is great choice to stay at. I stayed here on two separate occasions as part of my recent Kiwi Experience trip around NZ. First up was on Christmas Day (Kaikoura is like a ghost town on Christmas Day), so Yumi at the Lazy Shag arranged a huge feast for everyone and made us all feel very welcome... More

All rooms being en suite with separate toilet and shower is a massive plus. WiFi is global gossip, so $4 for a day and $12 for a week and is a really good speed. The kitchen is well stocked although not enough hobs for the amount of people staying. 15 minute walk from New World and 5 !minutes from the... More

Had private room with ensuite facilities, bit on the small side but just about manageable with luggage for two. The (busy) kitchen was well equipped, and there was plenty od seating on the decking for eating. Located within walking distance of bars and restaurants.

I had a great stay in this hostel which was clean and convenient. However, noise is not monitored in the after hours and I only was able to have a couple of hours sleep. Otherwise lovely place and will recommend.

Was okay, but for the price a bit overrated- no soap in the bathrooms, fridges packed with food, rooms were chilly and heater didn't work. Although wifi was fast, only two plugs in a room for six people. Also not the liveliest hotel- fully booked and yet nothing going on at night.

What I liked the most is the big warm kitchen though the tables were not enough for all. Rooms were clean and other facilities like dryers were easy to access and cheap to use. Wifi was not free but reasonable and fast enough. Plenty of toilets around & that was good for me as you don't have to wait around... More

Very friendly owners and wifi was reasonably priced too. A large warm kitchen and living area, but table was too small to fit everyone around. The rooms were basic but did the job, bed sheets were a little old and could do with replacing though.
