Conveniently located for all the Kaikoura activities. There is a lot of competition in the area, and this property is tucked away and does not have sea views. The owners are really helpful, and Debs can fix up any activity that you want.

Lovely private motel units in good location with friendly informative hosts. Lovely comfortable bed. Only thing lacking was a hairdryer and thought it was a bit odd having a clear glass window in the bathroom. Would stay again and recommend to others.

I feel struggled to rate Sails Motel. Just by Deb's hospitality, Sails deserves more than 5-star rating. Deb wants you to have the best experience you can and goes to great details to help you arrange your trip there, as call up the whale watching company to make booking and call up restaurants to make reservation for you. And she... More

Well set up studio style rooms with kitchenette, and lounge set back from the Esplanade among lush gardens. Very peaceful and private, but still a short walk into town. Hostess Deb was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful; suggesting activities in Kaikoura, and for our drive when arriving and then continuing south. A real highlight on our trip. Would love to... Stayed one night before departing early for whale watching. The room was functional, clean and tidy and perfectly equipped for a short stay. Set back from the Esplanade, Sails is conveniently situated for the town and other amenities. The star of the stay though is Deb - a perfect host who went to the trouble of ordering fish and chips... Sails is quite small, in a good location, on the beach road but tucked away from any road noise. Deb went out of her way to be helpful and we were almost overloaded with information. It was a relatively short walk into town. Before we booked, Deb helped us with advise about whale watching and when to go. Good pace... More

Spent one night here and Deb, the host, couldn't have been more helpful. She gave suggestions on what to do, where to eat, how to get places. Room was private and quiet and spotlessly clean. Wished we could have stayed longer.

A gem of a place, off the main road and very quiet. Debbie, our hostess, went the extra mile (kilometer) to ensure that our plans for the weekend were satisfied. Bed: very comfortable; sitting area with tv; small kitchenette with microwave, toaster and kettle providing a facility to prepare simple food if not wanting to eat out. Kaikoura has a... More

We stayed here for two nights straight after arriving in New Zealand and Deb couldn't have been more attentive in checking whether the whale watching tour we were booked on for the next day was the best in terms f the weather. She also offered lots of advice on other activities, restaurants and stops for our long drive to Dunedin... More

Deb seems determined that you have a great time in Kaikoura! Very helpful and sweet. Our room was OK, not my favorite of the trip, but had most of what we needed. It wasn't set up to allow cooking, but we didn't want to there anyway. Not at all fancy, it was clean and convenient to restaurants. No coffee maker... More
