Nice apartment, very clean but the landlady was over zealous, was around every corner, wanting to know where we were going, what we had to eat, turning on the light in our room while we were out. We were going to stay 2 nights but decided against it. Nice lady but too much for us. Kaikoura one of the nicest... More

We only booked in for 2 nights, we wished it could've been longer. Our room was very comfortable, tidy & clean. The facilities were excellent. The location was ideal. Deb & Ted were brilliant hosts, they couldn't do enough for you. All Deb's recommendations were spot on. If we're ever in the Kaikoura area again we will definitely try &... More

Secluded location, quiet and attractive. Spacious unit (esp. bathroom) and al fresco dining on our own deck. Turndown service was an unexpected delight. Cannot fault the friendliness of our hostess. Spotlessly clean. Wish we had stayed longer. Our quiet pre-teen and teen sons were very comfortable here too and made to feel very welcome. Thank you.

We booked a studio room (a larger one was not available for our time in Kaikoura). Booking by email was quick and efficient. Location ======= On the Esplande is walking distance (5 to 10 min) to town. You don't have a seaview as the motel is down a driveway away from the water. But the garden setting is rather nice,... Well, how should I say. This place is not one of those modern top notch motel. But the service and hospitality by the owner, Deb, was top notch. She was so so helpful right from the time you step into the place. She explained to me all the places that I could visit since I only have basically an afternoon... More

Conveniently located for all the Kaikoura activities. There is a lot of competition in the area, and this property is tucked away and does not have sea views. The owners are really helpful, and Debs can fix up any activity that you want.

Lovely private motel units in good location with friendly informative hosts. Lovely comfortable bed. Only thing lacking was a hairdryer and thought it was a bit odd having a clear glass window in the bathroom. Would stay again and recommend to others.

I feel struggled to rate Sails Motel. Just by Deb's hospitality, Sails deserves more than 5-star rating. Deb wants you to have the best experience you can and goes to great details to help you arrange your trip there, as call up the whale watching company to make booking and call up restaurants to make reservation for you. And she... More

Well set up studio style rooms with kitchenette, and lounge set back from the Esplanade among lush gardens. Very peaceful and private, but still a short walk into town. Hostess Deb was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful; suggesting activities in Kaikoura, and for our drive when arriving and then continuing south. A real highlight on our trip. Would love to... Stayed one night before departing early for whale watching. The room was functional, clean and tidy and perfectly equipped for a short stay. Set back from the Esplanade, Sails is conveniently situated for the town and other amenities. The star of the stay though is Deb - a perfect host who went to the trouble of ordering fish and chips...
