Manakau Lodge is a MUST stay when in Kaikoura. To start with the views from the lodge of the ocean and Mountains are absolutely spectacular! The magnificent snow capped mountains especially make a stunning backdrop to the lodge. We were lucky to have the lodge to ourselves and it truly felt like home (with benefits!). The rooms are beautifully done... More

This was an unexpected oasis in our stay on the South Island. Neil proved to be a wonderful host, who is quite engaging and provided a setting that enhanced all of what is wonderful with the Kaikoura area. We experienced great food, welcoming hospitality and the Lodge provided exceptional views of the the ocean and more particular, the snow capped... More

Neil was a wonderful host. Actually the rooms were not meant to accommodate more than 2, Neil was willing to allow our 2 young children to be with us. We chose the option of having our dinners provided as well and Neil provided very good meals for us as well as our 2 young children. The breakfast was also superb!... More

My friend and I stayed here on the Queens Birthday long weekend. We didn't have any bookings and luckily everywhere else was full! We got to stay in this brand new B&B with fantastic views of the mountains from one side and the sea from the other. Everything was well finished and had all the things you could need. I'm... More

The accommodation is outstanding. Made for a relaxing stay with a luxurious feel. Dinner was delicious and hospitality second to none. Great choice for breakfast in the lovely restaurant area. Would highly recommend Manakau Lodge for a visit to Kaikoura.

Ronald, my husband, and I arrived at Manakau one rainy afternoon in the middle of this passing winter. The coziness of the lodge and Neil's warmth made us forget about the cold and the long drive we had that day. We spend 3 nights and 4 days in Manakau and we still wished for more days. The lodge is first... More

This was the highlight of our trip. We stayed only one night and I wish we stayed longer. We booked the deluxe mountain view room and so glad we did. We could watch the mountains from our room, getting darker as the night approached, just wonderful. We dined at the Green Dolphin, which was fabulous. The bed was amazing, we... More

My husband and I arrived unexpectedly at Manakau Lodge at 7.30 pm one night in June after a flight from Sydney and drive from Christchurch. Unexpectedly to Neil (the owner) as I had booked the wrong date. He therefore wasn't expecting us but did not miss a beat, greeting us and making us comfortable. The accommodation is first class. What better welcome than a roaring log fire, a genial host (who doubles as a fabulous chef) and a quiet and peaceful location surrounded by open country just a 10 min drive to Kaikoura township. Look out behind the lodge and there are the mountains (snow topped in winter) and in the other direction the ocean. Rooms are beautifully furnished... More

We stayed at Manakau Lodge during March, the room was beautiful and clean and the view to the mountains was breathtaking. Even walking out the front door is as beautiful - with the 180 degree view of the sea in front of you! Neil, Eileen and Lauren made us feel so welcome, like part of the family! Nothing was too...
