We loved our 2 night stay at the Old Convent B&B and wished that our itinerary were more flexible so that we could have stayed there for longer. Whilst the facilities were a bit vintage in places (don't stay here if you want to live in luxury) we felt that they were part of the charm & character of the... more

We enjoyed our stay at the Old Convent. Simple and charming inn with very helpful staff. Rooms are clean but quite small. Walls are thin, but that seemed part of the charm. Breakfasts were good. more

We reserved our stay months in advance. We arrived at 1800 and were told there was only one room left. When we expressed dismay at the room we were told in so many words 'Too Bad.' The property appears to be in disrepair, the accomodation threadbare and pathetically sparse. We've spent months on the South Island and this place was... more

What a delightful place! From the first moment we entered this100-year old convent, we were mesmerized. A gorgeous building, steeped in history and charm, almost as charming as the owners. Our rooms (a two-bedroom suite) was spacious with understated elegance. I visited with three small children (aged 3, 4, and 6) in two, and the owners were more than accommodating.... more

This charming building is located a short drive from the main part of Kaikoura. We arrived without a booking and were lucky enough to be allocated "The Peoples" room, a massive room that has spectacular views of the Alps. The bed was huge and wonderfully comfortable. The ensuite shower was on the small side, limited by the physical space available... more

I stayed at the Old Convent recently and just wished there was a great place like this in every town. What a beautiful building kept in lovely condition, I just felt so at home here, it is so peaceful and I had one of my best sleeps on a really comfortable bed. The hosts are so helpful with local tips.... more

Accommodation looked very nice from their web site. The whole building is in need of upgrading and was not paticularly clean as we had to remove cobwebs from our room on arrival.Breakfasts not value for money as the only cooked choice each day seemed to be while we were there, scrambled egg and bacon. As you have to do most... more

We stayed at the The Old Convent Hotel that had been recommended in several guidebooks. We were supposed to have dinner there, but when we arrived we were told that the cook was not available and therefore, no dinner. It was quite dark and raining so we had to trudge out and find a pace to eat. The host did... more

Fantastic find - booked through Trailfinders on our honeymoon trip and arrived in October. Warm welcome and beautiful room and surroundings. Trouble was it over 2km out of Kaikoura and we thought they did dinners (which they do do in the high season. Also the weather was awful and Kaikoura doesn't look or feel good in the rain. The Old... more
