Travelled here in April, it was very clean and quiet. Warm too, I suppose the noise off the road could be an issue but it didn't bother us. A little bit of a walk up from the main town centre, so if you arrive by bus expect a short walk up a very slight hill. Overall it provided a cheap... More

It was so nice to stay in your hostel that we stayed two times! :) The free bread is really good. it's a short walk to the sea. Bathroom, rooms and kitchen are very clean. Nice movies for bad weather. The wall with tips for kaikoura is so helpful. Free laundry. (You can use the spa in the garden but... More

Nice little backpacker, but the atmosphere wasn't that goo. Two guys were sitting in front of the TV. The staff wasn't able to arrange a check in in the afternoon, although it was only 6pm and kicked us out on the next morning, telling us that we had five minutes left to leave the building. Damn that was a great day! Gladly... More

Comfortable bed, clean kitchen, clean toilet. The host stays upstairs, was not an issue for us as kaikoura was a quite small town and all we wanted to do there was to join the "encounter with dolphin" tour. Was lil noisy at night as i am a light sleeper.

It's an ok place, but we found the atmosphere lacking. Receptionist friendly enough, but the reception is upstairs, and the hostel downstairs, which detracts from the whole 'welcoming' thing. Facilities ok. It is basically someone's house that has been converted into a hostel, and it really feels like it! Other guests very unfriendly, but that's not the hostel's fault I... More

Great landlady running this place, very helpful and friendly. Use of your own kitchen downstairs, with homemade bread to eat to your hearts content. Every room has it's only wicker basket with your room number on to store your food. Plus a table for leaving left overs. 2 walk in showers, use of washing machine and tumble dryer for a... More

When I called the place, the hostess told me that I can buy a BBH card from her. Suddenly when I arrived, there was no card and I was told that I should walk to another Hostel which is quite far away. Luckily I had a car, but anyone else would have to walk about a mile or two. I... More

when we arrived the hostess was no where to be found and we were left not knowing quite what to do next. when I phoned her on mobile she was in Picton, and had "forgotten " to put a sign out advising us of this, or where we were sleeping etc. poor service and not particularly friendly. ammenities were good.... The rooms, kitchen, outdoor area and other amenities are quite nice, however other things were not as pleasant. We struggled to sleep because of the noise from the traffic and other people in the place, and had to buy earplugs. The front door bangs a lot, could do with an automatic closer to sort this out. Everything is on top... More

Although I am normally sensitive to noise, and there is a lot of traffic through there during the day; I had no problem sleeping at night. There are just 6 rooms that are a mixture of double and twin, and it is very clean and tidy. There is a barbeque, a spa pool and outdoor lounger chairs so you can... More
