Peaceful, beautiful view of mountains. The place is nice, the people are really friendly and helpful, the lamb roast and Yorkshire pudding was possibly the BEST meal we have had to date in NZ. I wish I could do my review on just the food....for they do fabulous....over the top in the restaurant. The motel is quite hard yo find,... More

A laid back motel in a laid back place, a few clicks out of town so you'll need a car to enjoy this place. It's not a B&B like trip advisor says, by the way, it's a classic motel- you pull up outside your room and the other side has access to a deck and a lawn with wonderful views... More

The atmosphere is nice at Donegal, its not the ritz, rooms basic but clean and comfortable, Bar classic feel and irish themed, staff friendly. Price is right for the type of stay. Grounds nice with a rural feel, but still less than 10 minutes to Kaikoura. We checked in about 8 pm, quick change and to the bar for dinner... More

As we have travelled to the South Island every year from Auckland CBD for the last 10 years in a Motorhome,we feel that Donegal House is such a gem not to be missed. We almost did miss it,as we have driven past so many times and this time we actually did a Uturn and came back and ended staying 2... More

This is a fun place to stay, set in lovely grounds. It has a very Irish pub atmosphere, and serves Guiness and plays (very old) videos of Irish music. Ask for a room away from the bar if you are not planning on staying up late! Food is OK, not exceptionally good.the service was a bit haphazard, friendly but could... More

As an Irish man I was disappointed with our stay. Not family friendly at all. Rooms were poor for what you pay for. Need to be modernised. Some of the staff were rude. Food was good , but overall our stay was not an enjoyable one.

I needed a place to stay for the night at the last minute. We had gone out to Donegal House for lunch that day and they had a lot of rooms available. It's a way from the city of Kaikoura so you really need a car if you're going to stay here but it's great if you do. Being out... More

The hotel is situated outside of Kaikoura so don't expect to be able to easily get into town. Not that that was problem for us as we knew where it was. Very basic and dated rooms but comfortable. The bar and restaurant was disorganised with one staff member on with a large and I'd say expected crowd. It was chaos... More

Booked through bookings.com with a decent rate. For those traveling from places like the U.S., there are almost no hotel chains as we know them. Most are mom & pop type places as we would view them. While Donegal House is not the most fashionable, it is clean and comfortable. We would go back to this place again. The breakfast... More

We had a really nice meal here while in Kaikoura. Sadly there wine list wasn't fully stocked. But this didnt stop our good nite. Friendly people and a really nice setting in the country. See you again soon.
