Donegal House is 'Pub Accommodation' where you should be aware that it is noisy through the Night with people coming and going. Other Guests are likely to have spent an evening at the Pub and come back to their rooms, noisily, at all hours of the night. The Gardens and Scenery are wonderful (tho they do need a clean up).... Behind a rather nondescript room entrance lay an amazing vista, gardens and views of the snow topped mountains. Staff helpful, friendly and efficient. Free WiFi in public areas only. Self laundry and dryer facility (4 dollars a pop) Well equipped bar, food more than adequate Shower temperature control erratic. No air-con All together a super little place - might not... More

My Husband and i spent a lovely afternoon in the gardens enjoying a really good meal The lady serving in the bar was friendly and you could almost believe that you were in Ireland as the pub had a very authentic feel to it The gardens are really beautiful and peaceful We also enjoyed chatting to Bevan and his wife... Great rooms and bar very nice. Dinner good value for money. Confusion with breakfast and the fact that you have to pay for cooked as an extra. The lady on breakfast was very sower and no help at all, more explantion when checking in would make all the difference and more staff at break fast is a must when busy.... More

Having an Irish husband, we decided to try out what was advertised as the best Irish hotel in NZ. The guest reviews had been mixed so I wasn't sure what to expect but it had a farmhouse feel with rooms extending in one direction and the restaurant and bar in the other. The rooms were clean and tidy of about... More

With a stunning backdrop of the mountains and a lot of Irish settler history this promised to be a new experience. The restaurant area boasts an enormous open fire and the staff were really friendly and helpful. However, the rooms are in dire need of modernization - no internet and only very basic TV service - and the maintenance regime... More

We were drawn here as it is one of the two free camping spots in Kaikoura. We were the only ones here as it was their dead season so we got to chose what channel to put on the big screen tv, sit in front of the roaring fire and drink lager while eating the roast which was delicious and... More

Its hard to believe you are in the southern hemisphere when you step into the bar at Donegal House. This place celebrates the families of Irish descent who settled in the Kaikoura area with lots of historical memorabilia and photographs throughout the bar and restaurant. Some doors have two door handles to add to your confusion especially after a few... More

We really should have read the Tripadvisor reviews, we have passed this place before and the website and the marketing promise great things. None of which were apparent on our visit. Lacking any welcome although we could hear people about. Our key was left on a chair with a nice note but the door to the room was left wide... More

We stayed at Donegal house as we were invited to attend a wedding here and wanted to be close. Rooms very shabby ,old ,in need of repair and maintenance. Outdated. Expensive .Next time we would stay in Kaikoura.
