We stayed at The Anchor Inn to be in a more peaceful part of Kaikoura and asked our host about local eateries within walking distance. There were only two which stood out enough to be recommended to us. We chose The Pier for lunch. The location is attractive in itself being part of a small working community on the harbour... More

The Pier was a late choice for our trip south to Tuatapere. It's old school in that the rooms are sans en suites but it was big and the beds comfy. Breakfast is complimentary but the meal we had in the evening was excellent and the service friendly and helpful. A laid back place and I'd definitely stay again.

We found a twin room here last minute over Christmas and were very impressed. Great views from our front verandah room. Amazing crayfish in the restaurant downstairs. Some noise pollution from other guests and we didn't have the slightly sad looking continental breakfast provided but other than that a great experience.

We stopped here kinda by accident as my husband wanted to fish. Had a couple of drinks in the sun in the beer garden and decided to stay....great decision. Food was very tasty, wine lovely, friendly staff. The rooms are quite basic but good price, clean and comfortable. Can't recommend the view enough, even if you can only stop for... More

After a big day driving we arrived at Kaikoura with the expectation of experiencing a kayaking experience with the seals... Well the weather had other plans and we came across the most amazing hotel - The Pier Hotel. What a lovely welcoming homely place. Beer poured well, wine selection great and when we decided to stay for dinner - the... More

On a quiet day in July, coming from an awesome Wale Watch, we visited the pub of the hotel. It felt like a cozy bar back home. Only the beautiful view was somehow different! We shared a very big tasty Pita Bucket accompanied by (of course) a delicious NZ Sauvignon Blanc. The man behind the bar was very hospitable. After... More

In a seaside resort full of holiday accommodation and dolphin/whale watchers, would recommend the Pier to anyone who likes some character in their comfort. Nice old pub, great sea views from convivial bar, restaurant and verandah guestrooms. Very clean share bathrooms. Guest lounge/breakfast room with the basics included in tariff. Only disappointment was crayfish in house restaurant: not cheap, not... More

After waiting over an hour for our bread to arrive we asked a waitress about the delay. She immediately said 'it is coming now' without even checking!? After another 10 minutes we asked a different waitress and she actually checked with kitchen and brought out bread straight away. We waited another 40 minutes for mains. My husband couldn't even cut... More

Paid $90 for double room with basin through I-site while on cycling trip. Shared shower and toilet. Old western pub some 10-20 mins walk from central Kaikoura. Accommodation was perfect for me. Professional service and room with shared facilities included all I needed. Restaurant and bar downstairs was a bonus. Sea views are lovely. Would definitely stay again.

stayed for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday night) place was deserted ordered a jug, sat down looked at the Kiwiana on the walls, however the Argentine bar Manager played a 'jazz CD' that really didn't fit in to the kiwi feel of the pub, it was loud and repetitive, at 4.30pm there was a stampede of the 'social club' into...
