Ben, the host was very welcoming and laid back. We were shown the facilities and taken to our room, which was basic but clean and suited our requirements. It was a very relaxed environment. We borrowed the bikes which got us out to the point to do some walking on the peninsula. We enjoyed the pancakes on Sunday morning prepared... More

This backpacker provided the worst accommodation experience in my life. On arrival we were told that our 7-year old daughter is not allowed to stay. A 'minor detail' that had deserved a one-line mention on the website and a short note at the bottom of a very long confirmation email (I had not seen it obviously!). We were turned away... More

This is a warm and comfy feeling backpackers. It is relaxed and all the usual do's and don'ts aren't there. Commonsense is encouraged and it does seem to work. Prices are fair for what you receive. Ben and Kylie make everyone feel welcome. We would stay again.

We could not sleep There because we were drinking just a beer outside with friends even not in the garden but in the other side of the road. The host called the police secretly... After that he ask us to leave the backpacker at 00h00. The worse welcoming ever!

This place is in a great location minutes walk to the town . The facilities are good. Kitchen well functioning and has everything you need. Room small but clean. Pity ablutions being redone in peak season. Lots of interesting things in lounge room area arty/musical artefacts...nice vibe.

Pretty funky backpackers in a great location for dolphin encounter. No free WiFi which was disappointing. Communal area was okay. The owner was a bit standoffish. Can find worse and better places in kaikoura.

What was most significant about this place was the amount of activities available for visitors. Paper, paints and crayons and a range of musical instruments all encouraged people to interact with each other. The wardens were particularly kind and helpful and I'm sure that their friendliness spread to those around them. We shared food we had cooked, sketched and enjoyed conversations

I strongly recommend this hostel to anyone travelling the South Island, for it's the best one I stayed at while in NZ! I had originally booked 2 nights, and ended up staying several months there, since the vibes in this cosy hostel are just great. This is a homy place, where you feel welcomed by the owners and their team.... More

We had a really lovely stay at Albatross recently. We stayed in a double room which was a good size; very clean; and was cosy with the heater on. The kitchen was really clean & well stocked. Free tea, coffee and hot choc is always a good thing in hostels :) I loved the hostels eco vibe as well as... More

This place is very relaxed and we had a great night's stay before we ran the Kaikoura half marathon. Kitchen was well-equipped (except the can opener…) and double bedroom was small but comfy. The vibe of the place was lovely – comfy squashy couches, guitars and ukeleles strewn around beanbag, hammocks, vege garden, loads of hand drawn art on the... More
