We only spent one night at the Albatross BBH in Kaikoura but it was great experience though. The rooms were absolutely clean and big enough. The loung and kitchen is a really nice place to chill out a little bit. Lots of game possibllities. And you only got 1 minute to the beach, so an ideal location. Recommend it to... More

Having travelled around NZ and stayed in quite a few hostels, for me the Albatross is clearly one of the best! It's a quite small hostel, so you really have a chance to feel at home. The current Manager, Ele, is very friendly and helpful, as well as the many wwoofers. You will always find someone to have a coffee... More

I found this review difficult to write. We were so excited when we initially arrived here- the place was run by former backpackers and seemed to have everything you needed and more (art corner and piano included!). Our double room was even in a separate building, and shared a kitchen and lounge with another twin (?) room. However a couple... More

Great hostel, the owners clearly love running it and are really friendly. They are good at arranging groups to do activities so you can keep costs down, and they are happy to talk you through walks in the area. Comfortable rooms and common area. Wifi costs 5NZD for 24 hours, but is very fast, unlimited and available in all the... More

We stayed at albatross for 2 nights in a double room. Everything was great! The bed was so comfy, with really plump pillows. The shower in the larger shower room was the best shower ive experienced in NZ, so powerful. We didnt use the kitchen much, but it was well equipped, clean and the free tea/coffee/ hot chocolate was great.... More

One of the nicest hostels we've stayed in. Cheap, fast reliable internet. Nice communal areas. Good quality free tea & coffee. & the coffee was proper ground coffee which was a real treat. Free garden herbs. We liked the emphasis on being environmentally friendly although we did notice the lights in communal areas were left on overnight so perhaps on... More

Home-feeling, friendly, small, clean, comfortable, and safe place. I immediately felt welcomed in this hostel. Tastefully decorated. There are instruments/art supplies/books everywhere. The kitchen was big. Lots of places to chill- outside and inside. LOVED my time in Kaikoura because of this hostel.

My stay there went well, but everything went south when I forgot my jacket. My husband and I were traveling through New Zealand, and the Hostel was our first stop in the South Island. The hostel was a bit noisy, but the staff does well to encourage a culture of togetherness, and we enjoyed a BBQ hosted by the hostel.... More

I loved this backpack! The owners are found of music that you can in the decoration and if you are lucky you can enjoy them playing music and singing. They are really nice and their backpack is really welcoming. All rooms were always clean (bedroom, kitchen, showers, toilets, living room). They provide bikes for free. Ans once a week they... More

This hostel was one of my favourites so far! It was clean! Had a great nights sleep! The kitchen common areas were lovely cosy maybe a little like home. The kitchen was a great size also easy to cook in! Would recommend this hostel of staying for a few days!
