Such a great place to stay in Kaikoura. The atmosphere is great, and the staff was wonderful. The backpacker inn offers free bicycles that you can borrow to go watch the seal colony or take a relaxing ride along the peninsula. When I came back in the evening after my bikeride, the fireplace was lit and freshly baked cupcakes with... More

Certainly one of the best places I've stayed at, in New Zealand. Ben and Katie, the owners, did a really good job and you can tell that they love what they are doing. They also know pretty much everything in kaikoura. The facilities are very good, full equipped kitchen (with free sugar, oil, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, spices and stuff),... More

This was an excellent backpackers with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. We stayed in a private double room which was simple and functional but great for our needs. The kitchen was well equipped and the communal lounge was great with a big wood burner to keep us warm on a cold winter's night.

Best hostel I have ever been in, lovely friendly staff and great, clean facilities. Loads of guitars, books games etc to keep you busy and social. Made my trip to Kaikoura all the better for the friends I made at the hostel :)

The backpacker is a good place to stay after a 8 hour drive from Franz Josep. The owner, thankfully, upgraded my request by letting us staying in a lovely couple room. I love the ambience of the backpacker which is decorated with cute furniture. The owner was so sweet when allowing us to cook our gray fish in the afternoon... More

The owners are really helpful and welcoming. The location for the whale/albatross/dolphin watching is perfect (a couple of minutes walk round the corner to the site) a 10 minute walk to some cute shops and restaurants and right by the beach! Around a 20 minute drive to the baby penguin colony which is worth a visit on the way in... More

This hostel was pretty wonderful. My husband and I stayed in a double room, separate from the main house, so it was very quiet. The staff was quite friendly, the price a great deal, and it was just a block and a half from the shore! I happened to wake up super early our first morning there, and trotted down... More

This hostel was so great. We stayed in the double room which was great value for the price. It was nice and warm and very comfy bed. We paid $5 for unlimited wifi and it was great. The kitchen is well stocked with free organic fair trade coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The lounge area was really nice. Overall I... More

It is clear to see why Ben and Katie continue to receive awards for their cosy, spacious Albatross Backpacker Inn. As soon as you enter the property through the small, white garden gate you cannot help but to be transported home through the welcoming smiles of the people around you, the huge seating area equipped with instruments, board games and...
