My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at the Albatross in January and wish we could have stayed longer. Our double room was in a quiet location in the building and had everything we needed including bright coloured linen, towels, reading lights, hooks, dark curtains and most importantly, a comfy real mattress (unlike the foam we encountered at other... An amazing little hostel right next to the beach and close to town. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the environment made it really easy to make some great friends. Having been in NZ for 9 months this is definitely one of the hostels that will stand out in my mind!

This place is definitely in my all time top 3 hostels in New Zealand. After a gruelling 8hr drive from Queenstown my friends and I were pretty tired and hadn't sorted out any food for dinner, once we were checked in the receptionist said they were having a communal BBQ and that we were more than welcome to join them!... I had a great time staying at the Albatross. Staff are super friendly and helpful and the hostel is really clean and charming! I loved staying in the "awesome dorm!" and I was really grateful that the kitchen was open 24 hours so I could make breakfast before my 5.30am dolphin swim. So many friendly people, colorful, happy place and... More

Have stayed before and it's reasonable, but we had an issue recently where BBH site stated rooms were available, yet Albatross staff kept on rejecting our booking. Eventually transpired there had been an 'admin' error according to the manager, and we therefore lost the room. Manager was less than apologetic (after me reminding them to reply to my complaint) and... More

This was the last of fifteen hostels that we stayed in whilst touring The South Island and unfortunately our experience of the Albatross was not a good one! We were both bitten alive by bed bugs - although we didn't realise until the following day when the bites started to itch. This was the only hostel that we experienced this... More

Friendly, welcoming staff that can help you plan adventures. Clean, cozy common and private areas with a well-equipped kitchen & comfy lounging spots. Close to the main town although a bit of a hike to ththe big grocery store - a good 30 minutes walk). Our only complaint was our double room was really small..barely enough room to move around... I like the whole setup of the place. The living units are away from the main building which houses the admin, kitchen, dining and get-together area. The deco has a fire place, guitars, boardgames and an out of tune piano. If you are young or young at heart who likes to mix, this is the place to stay. The kitchen... More

Sadly we only stayed one night on our way through kaikoura but I have no doubt we will be back. Despite showing up at closing time we were warmly welcomed and shown around enthusiastically. Really lovely communal vibe and nice outdoor area. It is just off the seafront which was actually quite good because it was more sheltered from the... More
