It was quite far from Kaikoura township but that was not an issue for me as I enjoyed the beautiful scene of the beach while walking to YHA. It, however, was close to the peninsula walkway where you can spot the seals and have a spectacular view of Kaikoura. I stayed in a 4-male dorm which was spacious though it... More

This YHA hostel is amazing. One reason is the location right by the sea: the rooms actually have sea views. There is quite a short walk to the seal colony as well. The other reason is that the rooms are almost motel-standard: for instance, in the four-bed femal dorm, there are three single beds and one elevated loft bed that... More

The YHA has absolutely amazing views and it is also very close to the seal colony just a bit further down the road. Parking facilities right out the front. Excellent kitchen facilities, they have everything you need and the view from the dining room is just amazing, I wish I could look out on that every day. Our room was... More

This is a perfectly acceptable yha with clean bathrooms and showers. The dorm room was comfortable. The kitchen was clean, but there was a significant problem with kelp flies coming in from the shore. The location is very nice, being just across the road from the beach and walking distance from a couple of restaurants and the local Fyffe House... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. On check-in, I was met by a very rude lady, which was the greatest start. However, check into a 4 bedded room, 2 single beds, and 2 other sort on bunk like beds. During my stay I think there were only 5 other people there! Room was comfy, and had a great sea view. Communal... More

Great location for all the amazing activities Kaikoura has to offer (it's such a great town), lovely view from the kitchen onto the ocean, good facilities standard for yha. And it was quiet. Parking right at the front. We had a good time there and when we go back to Kaikoura, we will book the YHA again.

Great little backpackers! The staff are friendly and happy to recommend and help book your excursions, they offer discounts for some too! A handy little shop, and great views of the ocean and mountains. Facilities are basic but clean and prices are very fair. A positive backpackers experience!

I was in a 4-bed-dorm, one of the bigger ever seen in hostels. Unfortunately reception is closed for many hours during the day so better if you ask for the time to arrive. I arrived late in the morning and I had to wait 1 and 1/2 hour in the lounge for my check-in, and I was told I couldn't... More

I would have given this hostel a very good review for comfort, but now it gets an excellent due to the reception staff. While I was here I lost my purse and so had to cancel my cards. Once I'd done all of that I remembered I had booked a seal swim which I now could not pay for so... More

We arrived at the YHA at 1pm thinking we'd be able to check in as my booking form said check in was between 12pm and 8pm. However the reception is closed between 10am and 4pm and then closes again at 8pm. So if you need anything... you have no joy. We booked a twin room. It was very small and... More
