Carmel is the most lovely helpful lady and we had a great 2 night stay with her. Superb encounter with dolphins, seals and albatross. Would highly recommend her home as a great base for the local area. Mountain views are amazing.

Wonderful two day stay, roomy Queen bedroom with separate entrance, beautiful open view of the mountains and a very good value since the area is growing in popularity. Advice on restaurants and especially the Dolphin Encounter was right on, we saw hundreds of dolphins, such a memorable visit!

My wife and I are independent travellers approaching retirement. We have recently returned from New Zealand where we spent three weeks touring by car and train. It was the holiday of a life time. Our two night stay in Kaikoura at A REST N KAI was an absolute delight. We saw a whale and a shark and many dolphins and... More

We stayed at Carmel's Rest 'n Kai in Jan 2010 and were really pleased. Carmel is a lovely elderly lady, with a real sparkle and zest for life. She is warm, yet unobtrusive & professional. Her recommendations for restaurants (eg. Hislops Cafe - excellent organic food) were super, as I am real "foodie". Carmel also kindly washed some very smelly... More

Carmel offers guests a large room with private entrance and en suite facilities. Everything is really clean. She is very friendly and nothing seems too much trouble (e.g. she did some laundry for us at no extra charge). Within walking distance of the centre of Kaikoura.
