A wonderful house near the beach, the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed and our room was very comfy and nice. Loved the freshly baked bread in the morning! An excellent place to meet other travellers and hear good tips.

Stayed one night, wished we had more time, was like a home away from home, Hosts were very friendly and helpful, knew the area for things to do and see. Interesting conversations with other guests, very clean and beds very comfortable. Definitely be back!

Very clean house, nice fresh homemade bread in the morning, friendly staff and the nicest manager in all of new zealand! Its not just a hostel, it feels like a home. :) And there is plenty to see in hokitika, jade carving at bonz n stonz, the gorge, hiking tracks and the best sunsets in the world :)

This is a wonderfully welcoming and cosy guesthouse a short walk from Hokitika restaurants and shops, with the beach at the end of the garden. At the time of our visit the property was in the very capable hands of a young American chap and his 'team' - all were very charming, chatty and helpful. We found everything most acceptable.

What a brilliant little guesthouse! Super-tidy, lovely design touches, a well-equipped shared kitchen and direct access to the rugged, beautiful beach. Drifting Sands was a perfect place to stay while travelling up or down the West Coast and was just a short walk into town. The host, Claire, is charming and friendly and the two 'beach-cats', Hunter & Storm, are... More

Very nice place to stay great for families and would look to hire whole house in future. Our room was close to the kitchen though and had to get up and tell other loud guests to keep the noise down around 11pm, as our 7 year old could not get to sleep. After that though we all had a great... More

The only one regret regarding this place I have is that we stayed only one night during our trip around South Island. Hokitika supposed to be for us 'only over night stay' but in turned in a unexpected beautiful experience because of this house and its host Claire. She is a very warm and caring person. The way how she... More

We stayed one night at Drifting Sands and it was fine. Our room ok. Shared areas ok, including a woodburner in the lounge. Roaring surf just through the garden. Plenty of parking and a delightful, interested host lady. Just the shower power needs improving, but I think that's on the list. We would go back, but we're in England!

I just stayed one night in this hostel. I appreciated that the small kitchen and bathroom were clean. The room I slept in the familiy room with four other ladies. The room is very small for five people. The accommodation needs to payed cash. If you have an allergy to cats, it's not the right hostel for you. Overall, quite... More

I stayed in the group room and had a really great experience.
