We stay here every time we're in Greymouth. First was in 2011, been back 3 times since then and it is good every time. Rooms are well equipped, down to having a plug, reading light and shelf beside each bed / side of the bed in double room. Furnishings are exactly what you need, no fuss, but decor is unusual... Very comfortable & clean room (booked double with shared bathroom). Free bike hire was perfect for tour of the town and getting to/from waterfront for sunset. Supermarket, fish & chip shop and Monteith's Brewery all just a quick walk from the hostel.

What a lovely place. Peacefully and a good vibe. I only had one night, but could easily have stayed for longer. Free bikes, kayaks, pick up from the station. Clean hostel and nice beds. This is really home away from home. Would love to come back.

Have stopped over at Global Village a few times through the years, and the quality of the place keeps up. It's the small things that sets some place apart, and GV ticks the spots. From present owners who have lived the place, and can provide local info all along the coast (this is getting rarer in NZ). Great kitchen, where... More

We liked the decor. We paddled the free canoes and I used the free bike. The kitchen area was well laid out. The bed proved comfortable, recycling is done in a big way and there was plenty of parking.

We stayed here for one night but would happily have stayed a week. This place has an environment befitting the role it plays in the life of backpackers. Great decor, cool rooms and plenty of comfortable chill space make it ideal for the weary traveller. Loved the interplay of all the cultures represented and you can walk to plenty of... More

We arrived in Greymouth to the heaviest rain we had ever seen (and we're from Northern Ireland so we've seen a lot of rain haha!) so it was lovely to check in to Global Village to find a nice fire burning!! The lady who checked us in was really friendly. The room was very cosy & clean. The kitchen was... More

Comfortable rooms, lots of amenities like a movie room with lots of movie choices, very well organized and equipped kitchen, great international decor, pretty good Wi Fi, very helpful host Russell. My only complaint is that the bicycles were not very usable. The only one I could use had a wiggly bottom bracket and was extremely rusted.but I still rate... More

We decided to have an adventure in New Zealand and stayed in many backpackers inns during our 3 week stay. Grey mouth is an old yucky place not one to visit but we stayed 2 nights and used it as base camp to explore up and down the raw north west coast of southern New Zealand this place is very... More

This hostel is great value for money - it exceeded all our expectations. My room was warm, spacious with a garden view, and beautifully decorated with homely touches such as quaint towel rail and african wall hangings. The kitchen is fully equipped (including fresh eggs), the dining room light and clean, and the lounge comfy, well laid out - great... More
