They are so nice people. There was no vacancy the whole backpackers of Greymouth because it was the easter season. 'Neptunes' had no vacancy as well, but they offered me dining room with comfy sofa and heater for free. even gave me a free free wi-fi., unlimited one. so didn't have to sleep on the road, was still raining which... That is the nice way of putting it. We arrived here at a time when the owner had left and it was in the hands of the man we met. He was very helpful, but did not seem like he wanted to be in charge of a hostel. To be fair to him, he ran it nevertheless. The hostel itself... More

We stayed here during our visit for the hokitika wild foods fest because most places in hokitika were booked or too expensive. We chose to pay a little extra to have a private room, but weren't expecting much based on previous reviews. The place was pretty run down, and I'm not entirely convinced the sheets were clean. The duvet was... More

Website and flyers promise a lot of things they simply do not have: A spa pool, free bikes, free coffee, tea and spices, free bikes, free bakery goods etc. Yard is full of old stuff and if you want to camp you can build your tent right in the carpark - lovely! The rooms aren't any better, if you're lucky... More

Website looked promising - big let down. Promised free bikes..but they were ALL broken. Yard full of junk, staff were backpackers that didn't know what was going on, kitchen was a nightmare, cooker and oven didn't work properly! The entire place was old and uncomfortable to stay in, bathrooms were not enticing to use and bed linen was not fully... More

Only five-ten minute walk from main town. Large house with huge lounges and spacious kitchen, all kept clean. Several bathrooms and many rooms. We stayed in a small double room with its own sink, which was handy. Owner was nice, setting up fireworks for everyone on Bonfire Night. Free wifi vouchers much appreciated. Atmosphere was friendly. Quite quiet at night... More

That last review sums it up quite well really. Relatively clean but dingy and in dire need of some attention. No chimney falling off the roof in the night, just a burst water pipe in the ceiling that flooded the kitchen! Back yard full of junk. Threadbare linen and carpet. True, the staff were friendly and the kitchen was large... More

Travelling on a hop-on-hop-off coach tour is a good way to get tips of places to see and places to stay. We were told how great this hostel was by one driver, and then how terribly awful it was by another. We weren't really sure what to expect. What we got was perfectly 'ok' - hence the average rating. The... More

Stayed here for one night to break up our trip along the south west coast of NZ. It's a bit run down but still a comfortable good value stay. The lounge area is quite nice to relax in the evening at. Rooms are clean and comfortable but our on the small side. Good location to anything that you want to... More
