Calls itself a hotel but rooms are motel style without any cooking facilities. Clean, warm and tidy but old fashioned. Road noise was a problem in our room, as was the noisy water pipes in the middle of the night. Restaurant prices ensured we ate in town. Parking is far from spacious. WC could use a plumber to improve flushing... More

Friendly service at reception was promising but our family room was pretty cold and smelt dusty or someone had been smoking in there. One of the heaters was set to'barely on' and dials had been removed so pesky guests couldn't adjust. Kitchen old but serviceable. Bathroom was in better condition thankfully. Beds were comfortable and had electric blankets. I needed... More

Dear Fudgie53, Thank you for your feedback. We do regret that you did not enjoy your stay with us at The Ashley Hotel. Stayed at the Ashley 10 June, a very elderly hotel crying out for a modern refit to bring it into the 21st century and move on from the 60's were it seems to be languishing. The staff are very cheerful, friendly and helpful, top marks to these young ladies. Now the restaurant is another world, main courses over $35, a... More

Not a bad hotel (more like motel) but in serious need of updating. Rooms are small and rather dark. Beds are extremely soft. Very small showers. Fairly clean but a bit worn. Hotel is out of the center of town and not much is in walking distance. OK stay for a great part of NZ but don't expect a lot... More

For me this was just one more dumpy motel in a long line of dumpy motels. What was unusual was the the free wifi that quit being free after 2 hours. You got a little piece of printer paper from the reception lady with a user name and password that you put in to your device. It lasted 2 hours... More

The hotel makes a good first impression but the room was in need of an update. It was a good size and quiet despite being located at the front of the hotel on the main road. The beach was only a short walk away and my boys enjoyed the pool. The smell from the bathroom was unpleasant, even when the... More

Although our 2 room appartment appeared clean, it was seriously dated. The heater on the wall had no dials and was posiitivly dead, the spare heaters had sticky tape holding the plugs together, the cords on the heaters were so short reletive to where the sockets were placed you had to litrally sit the heater up against the bed (... Superior Room Double was very clean, plastic bags on the extra pillows, plastic bags on the drinking glasses. Linen was very soft, beds were comfortable. Off street parking. Upstairs overlooking the car park and the cemetery, very quiet. The pool looked inviting. The staff were very helpful, in particular the young man who offered to carry our suitcases up the... More

we stayed for one night - it was Easter Sunday... We were very warmly greeted and our room was fine - it had all we needed and the complimentary wifi was great. Would not recommend this hotel, from the moment we walked in the lady was quite rude, she gave us a blank look as to why we wanted the wifi password and gave us very poor directions to our room, the room it self is ok, the main issue I had is that I stayed on a Sunday night and got... More
