We stayed at this hotel as part of a packaged itinerary. The located is conveniently located in the center of town, within walking distance to restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were to continue to our hotel in Fox Glacier the next morning when we found out from the front desk that the roads to Fox Glacier... more
Booked above standard room , Was shocked to say the least. Tiny bathroom was recently reno'd , Otherwise the room was old and dated. Stale and Musty. Used and Abused! Not impressed at all , It even appears on the exterior as quite good. Other Kingsgate hotels I've stayed at are of a much higher calibre (eg Paihia) However I... more
My husband and I stayed here on my birthday and it was so filthy. The bathroom had what looked like mold everywhere and the bathroom door was an old public toilet door. We asked to stay in a non smoking room but it smelt of smoke. The bed and furniture looked really old and smelt. The carpet was all mismatched... more
located smack bang in the middle of town, this was a nice, comfortable hotel. The rooms were clean and tidy and the staff I encountered helpful. They had a restaurant and a busy bar. more
Having arrived in Greymouth without pre booking accommodation on the weekend of their once a year coast to coast race, we weren't left with much choice for accommodation. It has a good setting across from the estuary, though any scenery is pleasant rather than spectacular. The hotel is OK, but very ordinary: ordinary rooms, ordinary restaurant, ordinary food. There are very few other options in Greymouth, as it seems... more
We arrived in November with our tour group from the TranzAlpine train in torrential rain and a howling gale. The only reason for Greymouth's existence seems to be as a depressing place to stay and make you realise how nice those before and after can be. It just has that special run-down feel like a UK seaside town. Fortunately we... more
We arrived on a very wet afternoon having already booked in another establishment which did not have a lift. Unfortunately one of our party had a medical condition and this accomodation was unsuitable. One of us had to try and look for other accomodation and found Kingsgate Hotel. The Front of Desk person was most helpful giving a special deal... more
It was raining cats and dogs when we arrived here from the TransAlpine Train. The reception area had towels around the door to stop the water coming in, which gave a bad first impression - things didn't get any better when we got to our rooms. The hotels on the rest of our tour had been excellent, but the bucket... more
