We stayed at the guest house at Ara Roa for 3 nights and used it as a base for diving at Poor Knights Island. The 2 bedroom 1 bath house was well laid out with the bedrooms on opposite sides of the living area providing privacy if 2 couples were to stay there The bedrooms were of generous size with very... We waited over 18 years for this, it being the destination for our 25th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed and in fact in exceeded our high expectations. We took the lazy weekend option at the Guest House. The food was delivered to our door and it was amazing. Better than any restaurant and not short on quantity. We had... More

Upon walking into Cliff House my breath was literally taken away with the view. I knew it had a good view from the website but nothing prepares you fo the total sheer beauty of it. It was absolutely stunning. The house is extremely well equipped with the MOST delicious bedding I have ever slept in. Showers were powerful and plenty... More

I'm fortunate to spend several months each year in New Zealand and have stayed in dozens of different accommodations. Ara Roa is a real stand out. My partner and I stayed there about five years ago and were impressed by the smart, comfortable design and layout of the Guest House. Its hard to find adjectives sufficient to describe the setting... Ara Roa, is simply one of the most amazing accommodations I have ever stayed in. I celebrated my 41st birthday at Ara Roa and the dinner prepared by Susanne and Paul was as spectacular as their accommodation. My partner and I stayed at the Guesthouse, which I can only describe as breathtaking. The views went on and on and the... More

We've been traveling the world for 7 months and Ara Roa was our favorite self-catering accommodation. We had high expectations going in given the beautiful pictures and all the offerings listed on the well organized website. Nothing could have prepared us for the extreme beauty of the grounds and the views were unreal. The Guest House was absolutely perfect, lacking... More

I am a expatriate Kiwi and stayed in the Guest House at Ara Roa with my wife during a visit to New Zealand from the US. Despite growing up accustomed to amazing views, Ara Roa blew us away. Not only was the location and view simply amazing, but the Guest House itself was superb. It felt like we were the... More

Off the beaten track we found exactly what the website had promised and even more. An unbelieveable view, nice rooms and immaculate facilities and - best of all - Paul and Susanne as caring hosts. Paul is born in the area and with good knowledge of beaches and walking tracks whereas Susanne is originally from Denmark and a passionate cook.... More

I traveled to Ara Roa for my birthday with my partner for my birthday, from the moment we got out of the car and onto the balcony we were captivated by the view. (We stayed at Aria) I believe we stood there in silence for about 30 minutes starring out. You can see in the photos what its like but... More

We loved our stay at ARA ROA. Paul and Susanne were such gracious and helpful hosts, providing for our every need and then some! We have travelled throughout New Zealand and this place is truly special - quiet, comfortable, well provisioned, and with the most tremendous view. We loved our time here and will definitely be back.
