We stayed in the Cliff House in December 2013 during our honeymoon trip through New Zealand and we did not want to leave and actually extended our stay for another day. The views are phantastic (see pics attached) as is the house which had been updated recently. We received directions from Paul who waited for us when we arrived. He... More

What a pleasant experience it was to star at Ara Roa. I had phoned through (from Australia) a couple of weeks in advance to book the accommodation and confirm rates. My original intention was to book The Studio, though, from memory, that may have been undergoing a renovation at the time and so, the owners allowed us the use of... More

An outstanding place for those looking for coastal luxury, peace, and privacy. We stayed at the Barn as a couple for a long weekend. It was the perfect romantic getaway for 2, but the huge space indoors and out, and facilities means we will probably come back with kids at some point. Plus: building, grounds, views, fit out, rooms, beds,... More

What a find! I hate to admit that it's my first time in northland, my husband has wanted to bring me here awhile and we finally made it, touring around in our vintage car. We found Ara Roa on tripadvisor, and we booked The Barn. It's an amazing drive out there, undulating country roads with majestic coastal views on arrival.... More

The Guest house was designed with infinite care, set in a breathtaking natural landscape and equipped with all one requires for a truly relaxing stay. It has been cared for immaculately and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Suggest you stock up on groceries in Whangarei and retreat to the Guest house. Plenty of walks from the house, short drives to magnificent... More

We stayed at Aria, which is a two bedroom self-contained wing attached to the Owner's house. The Manager (Paul) checked us in, and gave us the tour, very helpful and friendly, then left us to soak up the jaw-dropping view and utter silence ... well, there may have been a bird or two twittering, but that just added to the... We stayed at the Guest House . It is high up the hill with great view of the ocean and everything . Waking up to such a great view and tranquility every morning was wonderful . It has 2 bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with a view . The kitchen was well stocked with most of the stuff you need... More

What a wonderful and unique experience it is staying at the glasshouse. Situated on the cliff with expansive views from all three floor to ceiling glass walls. Or slide open the glass 'walls' to open the whole house and enjoy the quiet, peaceful, natural surrounds. At night, light the inbuilt fire on the deck and enjoy the night time tranquility... More

A long belated review from our trip Jul 2010. We stayed at the Aria, which is a duplex, but you don't park or enter on the same side as the family who owns the other side. The house is on top of a hill that overlooks the ocean, which is beautiful all day. We cooked our meals on the outdoor... More

We spent four nights in March in the Guest House, which sits high on a hillside above the owner's house and has a more than 180 degree open view of the ocean, offshore islands, pasture and woods, plus beautiful sunsets. Even watching rain showers approach was beautiful from the deck of the Guest House. The setting is completely private -... More
