Quiet and old fassioned atmosphere. Comfy seating arays and good kitchen space, comfy beds and clean. Owner were helpful and gave info in the formal cheack in. There was a range of games and activities, generally a young range of other guests

I definitely recommend the Bunkdown Lodge. I felt very comfortable from the first second I arrived and the owners are really cute and helpful! No wifi made people spend time together, play games und talk. Really refreshing!

I couldn't recommend this hostel enough! Great hosts who picked me up and dropped me off at the bus stop. Clean room. Hottest and most powerful shower ive ever had away from home. Nice garden to chill out and great communal areas, a very relaxed and cosy environment!

I stayed at the bunkdown lodge in Whangarei for a few night recently and can say it was a pleasant experience. The house itself is a little on the old side but generally very clean and well equipped. I stayed in the new dorm which use to be a shed and was probably one of the most comfortable sleeps I've... More

Very dated and hadn't seen a duster or vacuum for a long time. Some of the cushions on sofas and chairs were beyond shabby. Such a shame as had such potential. A good clean, a lick of paint, a huge de clutter would make a big diference.

the place needs an upgrade for example wifi or at least some proper computers with updated software and updated internet facilities. Tea and coffee facilities never filled up and always empty. We should be able to pay for accommodation using eftpos or credit card -paying by cash only is very inconvenient. Cheapest place in whangerei. Cosy ,comfortable and nice environment... More

In desperate need of a cheap nights accommodation as my original plans were changed. I'm a single female travelling up North on my own. I rung Bunkdown Lodge,he was rude from the get go and then denied me a nights stay because I am a New Zealander!

Despite the current %, I would recommend this hostel to all of my friends. The house is old but well maintained, common areas and bedroom were clean and the fire kept the house warm. Owners were welcoming and friendly and their little bundle of joy of a dog (so happy!!) made our stay very pleasurable.

I was just staying for one night, but already felt like home. Very cosy and clean place. The couple running the hostel is very friendly and helpful. Location is very good and it's quiet at night. Couldn't ask for more

The hostel is located a few hundred meters from an i-site, and a few minutes walk from a bus stop for Route 6, an hourly bus linking Whangarei city centre and Kiwi North museum. Walking to the main bus station was about 15 minutes. The hostel seems a bit worn down, but the kitchen, toilets and shower rooms were clean.... More
