I reviewed this backpackers in February 2014. It still rates right up there and deserves its consistently good TripAdvisor rating. David and Polly continue to do an excellent job and are constantly freshening the place up. Provided one has a car, the lodge is a really lovely place to base oneself while staying in Whangarei. Morepork can be heard through... More

What a beautiful little gem. I wish we had stayed longer. We stayed in the cabin outside, it's small and basic but so cosy, homely and clean. Waking up in the morning to beautiful views and having coffee on our own balcony enjoying the peace and quiet. A lovely kitchen is there to use with free range eggs from their... More

This is a unique place to stay, you are in the Forrest which is lovely and its so peaceful.... The caves are cool, its only 6 dollars to hire shoes, head light and helmet which is money well spent... The kitchen is well equipped, the rooms were clean and comfy. We really enjoyed are stay here :)

This was our first accommodation on our New Zealand 5 week holiday. It set the tone for the trip. It was clean, comfortable and very peaceful. The owners were helpful and never intrusive. The facilities were fine and well maintained. Our 2 nights here were very relaxing. Would recommend to anyone.

Stayed here very briefly for one night. The place is beautiful, hidden away in a little valley with direct access to abbey caves (glow worms). The owners are lovely and welcoming and you are made to feel at home right away. Great rooms with doors to the garden and a nice little kitchen/lounge just across the drive way. I got... More

Great place to stay. Lovely surroundings with farmland and native bush. Really tidy, clean and modern facilities. Has a lovely relaxing feel about it. perfect excape if you just need to get away from it all. Bed was so comfy I slept very well. Shower was perfect - good pressure to blast the dirt of. If you stay there, hire... More

I cannot put into words how great our stay was. David, the owner, is an amazing host and a very friendly man with great stories to tell and a wealth of knowledge about the area. The beds are comfy and the rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the location is absolutely beautiful. The Abby Caves behind the lodge are... More

This is by far the nicest backpackers/hostel I've ever stayed in. The place is beautiful, immaculately clean, and David and Polly are so lovely and helpful. Love that there are no bunk beds in the shared rooms - just 3 single beds, perfect for a quiet nights sleep. In a beautiful area right next to the abbey caves. Would highly... More

Stayed here over night for my birthday weekend. There were a few of us so we had the lodge to ourselves. David and Polly were very hospitable, the place was lovely and clean and the caves were great. Great value for money. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Little Earth Lodge for 2 nights and had a great stay. The place was quiet and clean. You wouldn't even know it was a hostel except for the shared bathrooms which were always spotless. The place was also very quiet and the shared kitchen was great especially for breakfast. The nature walk out the back door is... More
