Stayed here at the end of April with 3 friends. Booked a 4 bed dorm, but were upgraded to a family room free of charge (even though it was Easter weekend when everything was crowded!). The room was nice enough, though it only had one outlet that we could find. But there was a fridge, hot water heater and a... More

Stayed here for one night, was picked up a bit later than planned after we got off our bus and we were also dropped off the following day. Check out is at 10am but we got told we'd be taken at 9:30am which seemed a bit odd. We stayed in a small private room which was fine although the walls... More

Great facilities and views of Whangarei from hillside location. Comfy beds. Friendly management both times I've stayed here. Quiet and best if you have a car as it is uphill and quite a walk from the town centre. Would definitely stay there again.

Just stayed here 5 nights and I've not experienced so many Mosquitos in one area.! Ok it's been a hot dry summer but sitting out (or even inside) of an evening and the insects get troublesome. Flies seemed attracted and maybe the estuary lower down the hill effected a good breeding ground? My room (1) had a fly screen affixed... More

Downside is that this youth hostel is situated up on the hill about 10-15 minutes walk from most of the bus operators who service town. Upside is that the hostel is in a nice quiet surburban street with good views over town. It only has a small number of rooms so that it is easy to get to use the... More

Andy and all her staff have always been very helpful. They welcome everybody into this hostel like it's there home. You won't be disappointed when you stay here. Great view of the city at night and centrally located.

My friend and I drove from Auckland up the east coast of Northland, down the west coast and back. We stayed here the first night of our road trip and thought it was so cozy and welcoming, not to mention the great nighttime view of the city below. The lady at the front desk was super nice and gave us... More

What impressed me the most about the Whangarei YHA was the staff. It is run by a full-time manager, rather than young travelers. This gave the place a much more professional feel. The manager set us up with a map and directions to to the local waterfalls and glow worms, and even assisted us with a mistaken double booking at... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ours is a small family run YHA Backpackers and Holiday Park. We are located 2 minutes walk away from the beautiful Whangarei Waterfall and Parihaka Scenic Reserve walking tracks. Stroll to town along bush lined riverside walks or laze the day away beside the swimming pool. Evenings are for soaking in the hot tub and sharing stories around the BBQ. Located 5kms north east of Whangarei City Centre on the Twin Coast Highway we provide an ideal base for diving and exploring the Poor Knight Islands. Beautiful coastal beaches and Tutukaka with its marina are a short drive away. We happily arrange diving, fishing, kayaking and snorkelling with a free pick from our gate available.
