This great place has a B&B in one part and hostel accommodation in the other. Set in a beautiful building, with fantastic hosts, this was a great choice of hostel. I was fortunate enough to have the dorm to myself. If the hostel were full I could see bathroom might become an issue with one bathroom for 10 beds. But... More

The Braemar is more of a guest house than a classic B&B, as it has a dozen or so rooms in the main house which share bath facilities, and a YHA hostel on the back grounds, though the two are separate entities. The main house has a balcony which runs along the front, which is very pleasant in good weather.... More

We had a nice stay at Braemar House last night. Robert made us very welcome, provided great advice about making the most of our brief stop in Wanganui including where to dine (The Red Lion) and served a generous breakfast in the morning. The room was warm, cosy and quiet and exceptionally clean as were the separate bathroom facilities. Braemar... More

By we are searching and found this place eventually by going on line on our tablet and there she was. We were so glad we chose her. Beautifully decorated comfortable beds and scrumptious breakfast and Clive knows how to make real coffee for us Germans "strong and rich" The staff speak several languages which helped us although we speak good... We were last here about four years ago and the transformation is tremendous. it was just great then but it is now an outstanding B&B. The owners adviertise it as an experience of early provincial living in NZ and it is just that, right down to the embroidered table cloths. Very comfortable and elegant beds and the feeling that you... More

Stayed at the YHA Hostel (there's also a B&B). The communal areas were very clean and well maintained. However, there were notices everywhere with 'Rules' on them, found this a bit over whelming. Felt like the B&B, and its guests, get most of the attention/respect over the hostel. Our cabin got quite cold at night, but was clean and the... More

I found the comments regarding notices everywhere rather strange considering there are only three notices throughout the whole hostel. One is in all the bedrooms advising our check out time. The second is in all the bathrooms asking guests would they mind hanging up the floor towels after use and the third one is in the kitchen area advising the... More

Totally charming. Feels a bit like a sweet old boarding house in Europe. The English Breakfast was just perfect and Clive is a darling! Robert is super nice and my husband and I had such a good time chatting with our perfect hosts. We were there for the 7.0 earthquake and Clive really took care of us, making sure we... More

I stayed 2 nights in a twin share room. The service was very good, owner friendly. Kitchen facilities were clean and spacious. It is located a little way from the main shops for people who don't have cars. The shower is very good lots of hot water except shared one person at a time.

YHA room pretty basic, however as this was only an overnight stop, the hotel met our expectations. Shower was very good (although shared). Owner was friendly. I thought it a bit expensive for what you got.
