Stayed here for only one night unfortunately, very welcoming staff, lovely quiet room with comfy bed. Good selection of food in the bar which was excellently cooked. An excellent selection of draught beers. We had a small breakfast but could have had a full cooked, looked very good. Would definitely recommend this hotel, and hope to visit again one day.

I am surprised these guys aren't higher on the top hotel list. I absolutely loved everything about it. My gran and I stayed on a weekend visit and it was perfect. The room itself was huge and the beds were super comfy, we both slept like logs. I enjoyed the simple but very filling breakfast which was included in the... More

My partner and I stayed for two nights. A filling continental breakfast was included. The suites above the restaurant and bar are each of a classic Victorian setting, a staff member offered a viewing of the complete upstairs; suite 8 was the largest and classed as the honey moon suite. We excersised room service and particularly enjoyed the menu selection... More

Very friendly helpful staff, great selection of imported & craft beers, starters were tasty, I had sirloin steak with mushroom and red wine sauce for my main, thick piece of sirloin and very tasty I would recommend it, good evening out, I'll be back.

We had one night here. Made really welcome, room was very big, wonderfully clean and had central heating which we loved. Nice quiet location. The bar/restaurant were busy but service was quick, friendly and as I had called the night before, a vegan meal was specially made for me and all the food was a reasonable cost.

The friendly staff characterise this establishment, nothing seems to much trouble. The meals are generous in size and taste great and the hotel offers a wide array of beers ( had a tasting tray which was good value). In fact after my meal I enjoyed a mulled wine which was on offer. The rooms are large in size and while... More

this is probably the best hotel in a town that has seen better days. The rooms are very large though the bathrooms let them down. The food downstairs is good

Date pudding was nice ... steak isn't really nice though - I asked for well done and I got a slightly rare one. I understand it's a matter of taste so to be fair, the place is actually cosy with the nice fireplace. The service staff aren't very friendly though. I think they also need to upgrade their menu choices.

We were travelling around the North Island with friends who were on a visit from the UK and decided to stay at the Rutland Arms as we had throughly enjoyed our stay here in 2006. This time however the rooms had deteriorated quite abit since our last visit. It was very difficult to have a decent shower as the water... More

The Rutland Arms is a charming property located just off the main shopping street, Victoria Avenue. The property is historic and has lovely colonial rooms, all with a different theme. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean and spacious. The beds are comfortable and they have lovely linen. The pub downstairs is reminiscent of an English pub with a great range of... More
